Suggestions for a restaurant to watch soccer

by Zach Everson » Wed May 27, 2009 9:07 am

The final of Europe's Champion's League is on TV at 2:45 p.m. today. Any suggestions for a good bar or restaurant that might be showing it (it's on ESPN). Ideally the bar's TV would be outside too.

Thanks!

We're trying to decide the same thing. I've ran into fellow soccer fans at Molly's and the Rover, but their TVs aren't too conducive. I've also had a good time watching soccer at Ri Ra, if you don't mind going down to 4th St Live, $6 Guinness, and a mandate to turn it to the Red Sox no matter what else is on the tube. Captain's Quarters has a great new bar with new TVs outside. Impellizeris in the Highlands also has a nice TV outside. We're also considering the Zeppelin Cafe in Germantown which has awesome pretzels and a good beer list. Cafe Lou Lou and Maggie's (J-town) also have great food, beer, and TVs.

Sadly, for all of its variety, I don't know of a single European style "soccer bar" in Louisville with a quality beer list. If you are looking for soccer fans and camaraderie over all, I'd probably suggest going to a Mexican restaurant.

I would check Flanagan's. The TVs around the bar area are pretty good, and I doubt there would be many people there at 2:45 (i.e., you could get a good seat). Plus, the food is pretty good, and you might see a few soccer fans there.

Considering the 60% chance of rain today (and the fact that it actually looks like it's going to rain), I wouldn't count on finding a place with a TV outside, and I can't think of a place in Louisville where that exists.

I'll second Flanagan's. I watched the match there last year and the crowd was sparse. I'm the type that likes to get lost in the game, so I don't really care for crowds to watch with. Molly's was much more jumping. I don't really like the TV setup at Molly's. The front bar at Flanagan's is perfect to watch at.

One warning. Last year's PK thriller went so long that cars parked on Bardstown were getting cited and towed when the "No Parking" period went into effect. It might be tempting to park right out front, but I'd park off on the side road just to be safe.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I've watched World Cup games featuring Mexico out at La Tapatia on Preston, and it's been great fun. Don't know if they tune in European soccer, though.

Also, during the last World Cup, Palermo Viejo invited forumites (among others) to a special party for an Argentina match on a Sunday. Again, I don't know if they tune to other major soccer events, but it's a great place, definitely worth including on a list to ask.

I'm sure most soccer fans will find that incredibly offense. Lucky for me, I'm not a soccer fan, so I find it incredibly hilarious.
