Farewell to Fernando and Cristina - June 1 at Mojito's redux

by Melissa Richards-Person » Tue May 26, 2009 11:44 pm

Robin, if you wouldn't mind making this posting "sticky" for the next couple days, I'd appreciate it - that way I'm sure I don't miss anyone!

Greetings all! We're still on for our Forum sendoff for Fernando and Cristina at Mojito's - this coming Monday, June 1st at 7. Since we've all been pre-occupied with the Chicken and Dumplings throwdown and Memorial Day happenings, I wanted to let things die down before re-posting. Below is the list as I had it. If you all could re-confirm by PM for me by THIS FRIDAY, 5/29, I will confirm the numbers with Fernando. It promises to be quite a crowd!

Annemarie M
Gary F
Heather Y +1
BIll V
Dan Thomas & Colleen
Chris Howerton +2
David & Joyce Lange
Robin & Mary
Deb Hall (+ Brian?)
JD Barger +1
Cindy & Duncan Vermillion
Phil & Donna

Right now, that makes 23. Any others want to join the happy crew? See y'all there!

It's as sticky as molasses in January, Melissa! I even made it "global" (in all forums).

June 1 Forum Sendoff for Fernando and Cristina FINAL LIST!

by Melissa Richards-Person » Sun May 31, 2009 7:21 pm

All -

Thanks for the TON of RSVP's. Below is the final list that I have. If your name is on this list, you are included in our count. Because we have such a HUGE group - I would ask, please, that if you cannot attend, you PM BOTH Fernando and Me. Why? Because I will have limited ability to check the forum on Monday, so I don't want to miss anyone. If you are NOT on this list, we have somehow missed you (my apologies). Please do the same - PM Fernando and Me, and we will try to manage working you in, especially if some cancel last minute.

Thanks and this should be a LOT of fun! See you at 7!

I regret to say that I am not going to be able to make it this evening. I'm a bit under the weather, and I wouldn't be fit company.

It was a great evening! Super tapas, potent mojitos and a fun group. A fine time was had by all! I hope more of you will report with specifics, but among other things, the pork shank and the cheese-stuffed dates wrapped with bacon stand out for me. (Mary, Melissa and I let the chef select tapas for us and simply send out surprises, and it was a good decision.)

Sorry that a few folks were under the weather and couldn't make it. Thanks to those who took the time to report that they weren't going to be there.

I'm a little disappointed that a few others didn't show and didn't call, post or Email that they weren't going to make it. I don't want to go into nanny mode, but Mojito did us the kindness of setting up and reserving a long row of tables, and we could have let go the unused seats earlier if we didn't have to hold them for no-shows. No names need be mentioned, but as a general rule in dealing with nice restaurants, folks, it's good to call and let them know if you can't keep a reservation ... especially popular places that can use the tables for folks who are waiting. Nuff said!

I so wish I could have been there. Mojito is about our favorite restaurant, and we are very sad to see Fernando and Christina leave. The good news for us is that my wife is expecting our second child right now. The bad news is that the thought of food in general is grossing her out so it wasn't really the best time for us to head over that way. Glad everyone had a good time. Fernando and Christina, you will be missed!

Sorry I didn't go, or get the chance to cancel my RSVP...I got stuck working at a golf event the club was hosting and didn't get off til 8:30pm and was outside most of the day...

My sincere apologies from Colleen and myself as I really wanted to come but after working outside for 13 hours yesterday I was pretty beat...I'm very familar with the no-show reservations and the affect it can have on business...

I feel like a big heel and I'm hopeful we can say Good Bye to you guys before you leave!

Lior and I had a great time. It was nice to meet Will Crawford, and his wife Ruth.
Always nice to see Gary F, and glad he got to meet Lior.

Fernando and Christina were great Host and Hostess, and guests of honor at the same time.
I asked Fernando how it felt to sit and have a meal at Mojito, and we reminisced about the one and only time (With his family) before. It felt good, but as you all can imagine a bit surreal.

Upon getting ready to walk out the door, our oldest son (works at Mojito) instructed us to try something we have not tried before. We promised that we would, and not expecting tons of other stuff to come out of the kitchen, it was a chore to consume said promised dishes when we got them, but managed eagerly.

I looked to Christina for the proper drink for me for the evening, and we each chose "the swirl".
Combination of Sangria and frozen Margarita, it was a soothing concoction that offset the slightly fiery peppers in the Tacos Carnitas. Delish! I highly (oh yea) recommend it. Never had one before, Lior chose a Mojito for his drink, and the Solomia Cabrales (spelling) hmm hm.

The Martinez family will be sorely missed, but we look forward to reading about their successes in International /National publications, and visiting them in their new home of Margarita Island.

Buena Suerte!

I'm afraid one more mention about those dates and I'm going to have to get one of you guys to UPS some of them to us up here in Maine. They're the best!

Wish we were there :(

Best of luck to Fernando and Cristina!

Great night. Ruth and I loved it. Got to meet Heather and Lior...Annemarie. Good talking to Tom, Gary, Fernando and Christina. Great Hosts. the food was fantastic. Love the dates and duck flatbread. I stuck with small plates, grouper, omelet, shrimp and Ruth had the shank which was wonderful. Here are some pics.
