We had to drive south of E-town today on family business and needed to eat lunch. Stopped into Glendale and found "Tony York's on Main" on the remains of the old Depot Restaurant that was destroyed in a fire last year. New building, new look, new menu, and new style - much more upscale in appearance. Very classy dining room with muted soft tans and white and a semi-open kitchen. White tablecloths and stemware are in abundance. A white grand piano occupies a nook near the entrance to the dining room. I turned to my wife with an expression of "Are we in Glendale?"
We started with shrimp & grits that was very well done. Cajun spiced grilled shrimp over soft and creamy cheese grits with a tasty Louisiana remoulade. Our 14 y/o ordered a Hot Brown that was right out from under the broiler with toast, turkey, country ham, mornay sauce, bacon, and tomatoes - he was able to stuff most of it down and I took all the head nods as an affirmation that the dish was good. I had a nice seared piece of ahi (rare) with wasabi and pickled ginger. Sides were sticky rice and asparagus. A simple but well executed dish and the fish was fresh (I'm in Glendale and this wasn't catfish.) My wife had a nice gorgonzola salad with apples and a southwest chicken soup.
Service was excellent and at 1:30 pm the dining room over half full. The menu has a variety of offerings including steaks (Green River Cattle Company), seafood, quail, etc. My impression of the food is quality ingredients done well with a rather simple approach. It appears they are striving to use local ingredients.
Bad news - no wine or beer service
Good news - They responded that I can bring my own wine and that there is no corkage fee.
Overall a very nice lunch on par with some of the finest Louisville has to offer. I wonder how it will do in Glendale - well I hope. I had heard that there have been consistency issues since the restaurant opened (re-opened) last October - there were no issues today. We will be back.
