My wife and I have visited this great little Frankfort Ave. establishment (housed in the old Cafe Lou Lou) 3 times now and we are always flabbergasted at how empty it is. The barbecue is some of the best Ive had in Louisville with great sides to match (the only exception being the old Pigasus on Longest Ave). Served "Marks" style with sauces on the side, the meat is always tender and smokey and the three sauces are terrific (especially the vinegar one). I was most pleased to see North Carolina style BBQ on the menu (pulled pork, topped with slaw and a thin, vinegary BBQ sauce)---Its not something Ive often seen around here but having spent my college years in Savannah GA, where this style has become popular, I can vouch for its authenticity. The appetizers are, interestingly enough, more creole influenced (shrimp and grits, crawfish tales, etc.). On our last vist we gave the shrimp and grits a try and found them to be excellent---perhaps not as impressive as Son of a Sailor or Jack Fry's but definitely in the same league.
Lastly, the beer list is incredible---all local and micro craft brews (19 on draft and maybe 30-50 bottles)! Seriously, aside from NABC, this is one of the best beer spots in town!
They've just recently started doing trivia on Thursday night to get some people in the door but honestly, the food and beer alone should have people lined up. If you haven't tried this place yet, please give it a try!
*I am in no way affiliated with this or any other restaurant; I simply don't want to see another unique local establishment bite the dust for all the wrong reasons.
