So, Browning's for sale in Slugger Field or not?

by Robin Garr » Fri May 22, 2009 9:16 pm

Several of us were out at the old ball game tonight looking all over for the eagerly awaited Browning's vendors, but it was nothing but all Bud, all the time. What's the deal?

What kind of booth was it in, Todd? Free-standing, or with something else?

I'd love to know, as I'm heading to the game tonight.

If no one has the details, I'll do some recon.

I apologize for being so excited when centerplate said they would sell Brownings at 3 locations in Slugger Field --- section 110, berm area near center field, and at the upstairs bar. As we have discovered, so far section 110 (3rd baseline) is the only tap for the moment. I still think that Brownings will be available in more locations, but may take a bit of patience & time. Sorry for the confusion. Please come in before or after the game, to enjoy great beer & food. I still have hope that before too long Brownings will be available at all kiosks at Slugger Field. Thank you for your support of local beer.

thanks for the info.

I'll post tomorrow with my satisfaction report. I'm thinking that I'll be quite happy with the opportunity to not support AB.

We'll look for it tonight too. Our company has more than 200 people coming. Hope the weather holds up.

The Guillotine ESB was exceptional.

Dear Matthew,
Did you find the ESB on tap in the ballfield? Look for some other fine creations from Brian in the near future. :)

Paula,

I found it at a kiosk on the third base side, near sections 120-121, on the field side of the walkway. Not hard to find at all.

At first I thought it was served too cold, but, with the evening heat, I ended being happy with the serving temperature when my beer remained cold(ish) 30 minutes later. What's the ABV on that drink? - think it was more than I was expecting. My only complaint (which is both small and pretentious) was that the drink was served in a bud light cup. Are there Browning's cups? If not, have they been considered? I know it is a small gripe; at the same time, I'd think you guys would want as much PR as possible. And I'm sure AB would just as well like it if you guys went to hell.

Cheers.

Interesting. That is directly downstairs from the HotBytes seats ... would have been both the first and last place I looked. We're going out tonight, barring rain ... will look again.

The most interesting thing about that is that Slugger Field beers are mostly served in Centerplate cups. It's almost as if they went out and got some Bud cups to serve the Browning's in.

Ok, I really hope Robin was able to get a Browning's Beer tonight! My understanding was that it would be served in a centerplate cup, definitely not a bud cup. You can always come in to the restaurant to get a cold beer in a glass, we would love to see you. Thanks again for the support, and to help expand my list of things to discuss w/ centerplate.

Found it! Tonight in a kiosk between 119 and 120, but close enough. And they do have a little Guillotine ESB logo up on the signboard. It was indeed served in Budweiser cups, but it was nevertheless a good ESB, rich and malty and very hoppy.

To be honest, Paula, to my personal tastes I'd rather sip an ESB in more pubby surroundings like Browning's itself and have something like a well-made microbrewed lager or wheat served in the ballpark on a sultry summer evening at the ballgame. But I suspect Bud would draw the line at something so obviously competitive. 8)

It's summertime, or near enough, time for wittes and pils!

A buddy of mine got me a bunch of vouchers for tickets for a couple dozen games as a christmas present, so I'm definitely going to hunt down the Brownings since it's out there. I've got no problem with Bud, but it's just not something I'm going to drink if I have the option.

Sorry for coming in late, but I'm checking mail from Copenhagen, where Browning's beer isn't yet available (but several American micros are on shelves, and that's good).

I will be writing about ballpark beer in the LEO column coming this week, but had to file it three weeks ago in anticipation of the trip abroad. Consequently, it looks like my piece will be somewhat less than topical given this thread. The important thing is having a ballpark option, although it sounds like very little has changed. Variety must be violently pried from the dead, monopolistic hand of A-B, then, now and in the future.
