I suggest you get with the guys who run Slugger Field and get your drink and food options out there. I'm sure, with your clout, it will just take a wink of the eye. To be sure that you don't think I am being sarcastic, I believe that most the options out there SUCK ASS.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

The problem is, and I think I can speak for most of us true fans who frequent the yard on a regular basis, the dining options seem insipid and un-inspired. For those folks who might take the kids out once or twice a season, then the offerings might seem normal and reasonable pricewise as compared to going to see a Major League team like the Reds. For example, A bottle of water costs $4.00 at Great American Ball Park and a beer will run you $6.00(for a draft swill).

In my opinion(and hopefully others who go to twenty or more games a year) outside of the standard "ball-park fare" there really isn't much out there that contributes to the whole experience of the game. The opportunity is there to present interesting food with "local" flair,(Maybe like a Grilled Pimento Cheese and Benedictine, Homestyle Chili with Noodles in it, perhaps create a hand-held Hot Brown, offer us Rolled Oysters, or even a decent Fried Fish Sandwich on Rye...how hard can it be guys!?) but the current holders of the concessions(Centerplate) seem to have the statis-quo in mind. I guess it would take too much effort on someone's part, so therefore, they just keep serving the same ole' crap year in and out because they can.

Hand held Hot Brown

by Dan Thomas » Sat May 12, 2007 4:08 am

I'm sorry to say that The Hand Held "Hot Brown" will probably never see the light of day...but here's how I would make it
with the same stuff they already have at Louisville Slugger Field..Keep in mind "It's ballpark fare" It could be better but HEY! It was my idea first!

2 slices of grilled Texas Toast
5 oz.Grilled sliced smoked deli turkey
2 Tomato slices
2 slices of Bacon(precooked of course..we'er talking about Centerplate here)
A "healthy dose" of processed cheese goop(the same stuff they put on nachos)

Build that sucker like a Reuben and serve it up at one of those grill station kiosks and let the lines form....

Retail price $5.95

Doogy: I have. The last time it was discussed in earnest, the response of Dale Owens with the Bats was that all I was concerned with was placing my beer in the ballpark.

This was before we even had a brewery, which tells you something about their level of perception.

Dan: It's great how you're coming up with the menu for my next brewpub project. Keep up the good work. I'm keeping notes.

And what is the target location Roger? I wish you'd come over here to the Ville somewhere.

Well ... thanks for that. My passion of late is downtown New Albany, and the progress we're finally beginning to make there. We've been pondering some semblance of expansion for a while, and although it would be great to be in Louisville at some point (perhaps in some form of co-op for a tap room or such), right now my heart's in my own hood.

As to what form this will take -- it's still early. Got a big pot of money? E-mail me privately and we'll talk.

I would love to consult you on a brewpub menu sir...In the past, when I lived in New England, I created and presented food that matched up very well at tasting dinners for such craft breweries as Smuttynose, Nutfield, Tuckerman's, and for Mr. Koch from Sam Adams(Triple Bock Blue Cheesecake with Candied Walnuts and a Cranberry Lambic Reduction).

Dang! I'd just love to, but I've got a backed-up schedule today that's just not going to make it possible. If a bunch of you do go, though, I hope you'll eat and post!

Great weather for a ballgame today! I'll be out there with some of my on the job friends relegated to Section 103. Buying tickets online late is rough :D

What an incredible day at the ballpark. Today was school field trip day and they were there in the thousands. We wandered over to Section 103 and the usher asked us if we were with any school group. Answering in the negative he proceeded to fix us up with some much better seats just to the right of homeplate. Good has just gotten great. Decided to sample the Beef De Ville sandwich which is pretty good. Lots of sliced roast beef on a kosher salt studded kaiser roll. The sauce on it bore no resemblance to the photo that Mr. Rosen had in the C-J but it did have a cup of horseradish which evened the whole thing out nicely. Take a sprig of rosemary with you and it would be perfect. It was made to order and came with chips. A decent, good size sandwich for $6.00

Great weather, too.

Best of all: Bats Won 5 to 4 :!:

Nope, wrong guy, already lost the little money I had on my small business venture

However, if I were rolling in some dough it would be ultra cool to start a tap room with you. On the flip side, I learned that restaurant business is a risky venture :? , you never really know how things are going to go until you open the doors and see what happens.
