Dont have cash to cover the bill.

OK I figured I'd ask around about this. Everyone knows the "legend" about not having money for your meal and having to wash dishes. So has anyone on here ever encountered a situation like this from either side, customer or business? Just curious.

I am kind of a big deal.

Happened to me once when I was in school in Alabama. Just showed them my ID and they took down the info and I went back the next day to pay my tab, so to speak. No biggie.

I had the same problem not too long ago......I left my wallet at home......it was a place I frequent, and I stopped after work and settled up, and they sent me home with a free dessert......

I left my wallet at work once while eating lunch. When going to pay, I explained the situation. I left a name, along with my cell phone; returning in 10 minutes to pay the check.

I've always found Louisville places very nice about this. Some have just told us to come by next time. A couple of places (a little Mexican spot out Dixie, and Wood City (?) barbecue on Fifth near Chestnut (?) I left Mary to keep our table warm while I ran across the street to an ATM upon learning that they didn't take credit cards.

Nobody's ever been nasty about it, although I wouldn't be surprised (or judgmental) if some "profiling" were to occur in a situation like this.

I've had that happen to me several times Robin. I wish every restaurant that didn;t take credit cards had a big sign on the door on somewhere on the menu... seriously.

True that. Or when last week I thought I was going to get lynched for getting my haircut at the Gardiner Lane barber without cash. Luckily they were ameniable, gave me plenty of shhhh for it though!

My lawyer stiffed me a month ago...I told him not to worry as he had written off a bunch of work for me but he insisted. I still have not gotten the check in the mail.. I'm just keeping it in the bank so to speak.

I did have a guy one time who came in to eat and had no cash. He offered to wash dishes in exchange for his lunch, so I fed him and then pitched him an apron and sent him to the back. About a half an hour later he knocked out all of the lunch dishes and he went on his way. Never saw the guy again. It was kinda nuts, but it actually happened. Seemed like a decent guy.

Occasionally a regular customer will come in and be short or forget their credit card at home, etc. and of course I let them slide until they come in next time (usually later that day or next day), far as I can remember it has never been an issue.
