Spinoff: Favorite SANDWICH in Louisville

by Adrian Baldwin » Thu May 14, 2009 9:55 am

...inspired by the 'Sandwich Shop' thread, what is your favorite sandwich in Louisville. Doesn't have to be at a 'deli', just your favorite sandwich.

For me, it's got to be Lonnies Italian Beef, w/ provolone & giardiniera.

Honroable Mention:

-'Derby Sandwich' from Wagners (Grilled Country Ham & Cheese......w/ special sauce)
-Cheesesteak from Danny Mac's
-Gargantuan from Jimmy John's (yes, it's a chain. Still love their sambos)
-Smoked Turkey w/ Colby & Horsey from Deeb's.

RIP to the 'Triangle Philly Wrap' from Karem's in St. Matts. I realize he's open out at Norton Commons, but I'm never out that way.

From the first time I tried it I cannot even drive past Value Market without stopping to get a Cubano...

I do have to give honorary mention also to anything from Sub Station II
Also to the Gargantuan from JJ's though I do order it with Avocado added :)

Valu Market Deli's Cuban. Monte Carlo on plain bagel from Dooley's has been a favorite of mine for years.

There are just too many to choose from and it can be a mood thing on any given day. Some of my frequent candidates, though, include the Cubano at Havana Rumba, Banh Mi at the South End Vietnamese eateries, benedictine and bacon at The Cafe or Kayrouz Cafe, and just about any sandwich on the menu at Cafe Lou Lou or Meridian Cafe. Oh, yeah, and muffuletta at Lotsa Pasta. Fish sandwiches at Stan's, The Fishery, The Fish House or Zaytun.

Yep, Stan's Fish Sandwich rules.

Also: Danny Mac's Cheesesteak and a Braunschwieger sandwich with colby cheese, mayo, hot mustard, tomatoes and lettuce from Burger's Market.

The "St. Matthews" at the Pizza Guy in Lyndon. An oven baked sub with ham, salami, pepperoni, onions, geeen peppers, black and green olives, mushrooms, banana peppers, tomato, mozzerella cheese and italian dressing. Sandwich, chips and drink for a $6.99 lunch is hard to beat.
