Oysters Chicago?

by Kevin A » Sat May 09, 2009 6:05 pm

Went on a short business trip to Jacksonville, where I met my accomplice (and long-time horse betting partner)-- who was vacationing down there-- at the beach one evening. I declared myself in need of seafood, so we hit several places on Jacksonville Beach. Lobster, shrimp, conch, we ate all the usual suspects.

I asked a Jax cop where to get good oysters, and he suggested Bukkets, a raw bar. They served Oysters Chicago, which I have never had before. Oysters on the half shell, parmesan baked on top, then drizzled with garlic butter. They were absolutely decadent; even though I was already stuffed, I quickly mowed down my half dozen. I felt like a sultan when eating these things.

Are these uncommon, or do I not get out enough?

That sounds similar to chargrilled oysters that are common in New Orleans. Were they on a grill?
