Baby G BBQ?

by Kim H » Thu May 07, 2009 4:17 pm

I noticed that the old Pepper Shaker BBQ on Preston is now called Baby G BBQ, and it seemed to be newly opened. I saw a guy outside working the smoker, and it smelled good, but it wasn't lunch yet, and I didn't stop. Anyone been there, or know anything about them?

I've been twice, the first was on a whim the second was because I was pleased the first time. The meats were excellent although the side were decent. Worth the stop, I hope to return again the next time I am in the area.

Thank you, Anderson! I'm not usually over that way too much these days, but if I am, I might poke in and get some Q. Appreciate the input!

That location started out as "Grand Junction Hamburger Station" back around 1988. I don't think the concept lasted too long, although the burger and "cross tied fries" were pretty good.

Address is listed as 4912 Preston. Not far from Grade Lane heading south.

We went by yesterday while doing errands/deliveries. Anne had the pulled pork and I went with the smoked polish. The pork had a very nice smoke going on with great texture, nice and tender without being too soft. They lightly applied some sauce to the sandwich, but it didnt really need it as the meat was at the right moisture level to start with. The polish that I had was also smoked just right. It was a pretty huge piece of meat that had a good snap to it. When asked how I wanted it I told them serve it up the way they normally do. It came out with grilled onions and BBQ sauce. I was a little thrown by the addition of sauce but no big deal, Ill remember that in the future. I normally take mine with just mustard and grilled onions.
The only downsides here were the breads. Annes bun was the standard wonder type fluffy hamburger bun that held up fairly well to the pork sandwich. As for the bun on the polish...it just didnt work out at all. It was a undersized light weight hotdog bun that couldnt begin to keep up with that huge sausage. Other issues included the uninspired coleslaw, not bad but pretty ho hum, and the drink problem. Upon getting in the car I pushed my straw into the cup only to find it coming out the bottom of the cup leaking pepsi all over me. Maybe I just got a bad cup, I dont know. Overall we thought the meat was smoked well and plenty of good flavor and texture. The staff was very friendly and they had an "A" rating in the window.
Pic of my polish...sorry didnt get a pic of the pulled pork.

The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.
