Get on the Party Bus

by Steve P » Wed May 06, 2009 3:58 pm

We've got about a dozen friends coming to visit over the Memorial Day weekend. We'd like to do a little Dinner/Pub Crawl in and around town on Saturday. In that we have no desire to become MADD statistics we'd like to rent a chauffeured party van or bus for the day/evening. Is there such a service available here in The 'Ville or are we going to be forced to go the "Limo" route ? (We're really not a limo crowd).

Actually, I think most Limo Companies have "party buses" these days.

Steve, I did a lot of pricing for a bachelorette party I threw a couple years ago. Bottom line is - it was cheaper to rent a 12-seat van and hire someone to drive than it was to rent a limo. Just rent the van and then come back to the forum and say how much the driver will get paid - I'm sure someone will take you up on it!

A friend of mine, who was getting married at Otter Creek Park, rented a bus for drinking guests to/from the wedding/reception. It was a nice, air conditioned bus too and they let us bring a cooler on board. I think it was a few hundred bucks for the day and sat about 40 or so people. I'll ask her who it was through.

I took their Saints and Sinners Tour and it was a lot of fun.

Ummm, well, if you're not the limo type, I'm going to assume that means you're the exact opposite type, and that there is absolutely no grey area in between.

A buddy of mine used to rent a big yellow schoolbus to cart us from the Highlands to Derby and back (this was a few years ago, and the practice has stopped in recent years, but only because he moved to Philly).

No AC, smells like a schoolbus should smell--very stylish. If you're interested, I'm happy to see who he used for that service.

In terms of simplicity, Marsha's suggestion will be hard to beat.

Hell, I'm a poor PhD student with mounting bills. I'd drive that van for $50. Parallel parking is extra.
