Corner Cafe Report

by Mark Head » Tue May 05, 2009 3:45 pm

We were at a loss the other night and stopped by Corner Cafe on Whips Mill Road. I had not been in there for 4 or 5 years. Looks the same without much change. The menu basically looks about the same with sandwhiches, pizza, pasta, and a page of higher quality entrees. They have a reasonable wine list as well with a full bar.

My son had the pork shank (they called it pork oso bucco) over cabbage with mashed potatos and green beans. He loved it and I have to say it was very good. Falling off the bone with a rich meaty glaze. The cabbage provided an Eastern European flair that really set the dish off.

I had spaghetti with meatballs. The marinara was really good as were the meatballs. The pasta was angel hair and was a bit overcooked. Salad had a nice peppercorn ranch and the fresh rolls were hot and soft.

All in all a very decent meal at a very decent price in a place that often get's overlooked. Great for a mid-week dinner.

I just went a couple weeks ago with my family. We had not been in ages either, and the main difference was that it had expanded somewhat. The only thing that we found bad was how there is a giant gap between the price for sandwiches and the price for entrees. Although, the sandwiches look so good that they really are a bargain. Salmon pattie sandwich was amazing ($7.99 I think)! So was the lobster bisque we all shared. Big portions too! They were also busy that night, which was great to see. Would be a nice place for a wedding rehearsal dinner (the room in back could seat 50 or more). It was fun looking at the art on the walls too!

And don't forget to use your Louisville Originals card!

I think Corner Cafe remains one of the best kept secrets in East Louisville (Lyndon/Anchorage area)...they don't seem to do much advertising, but I think they're popularity has largely spread word-of-mouth...their "Cajun Seafood Alfredo" is awesome...if you order it (esp. the dinner portion) make sure you're hungry beforehand -- it's rich and filling.

Their veggie sub is hands down the BEST in town. I think the bread definitely has something to do with that.
