Reports that make us go "duh": Pork doesn't spread swine flu

by Robin Garr » Mon Apr 27, 2009 5:37 pm

Consumers can eat pork with no concern for swine flu

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Shoppers should not shy away from pork products over concerns regarding reports of swine flu across the country, said Purdue University experts.

Purdue Extension nutrition specialist Melissa Maulding said the flu virus is not a food-borne pathogen, and there is no risk to the food supply.

"The flu is a virus that is transmitted through interaction with people," she said. "The biggest defense against catching the flu is to wash your hands."

I have noticed a couple of my Facebook friends are laboring under this misconception - don't give up the bacon, people! That's just buying into bad science.

On the contrary, I've vowed to eat more bacon to build up my resistance! Can't be too careful.

Whew! I was a little worried I might have to consider moving out of my house made of bacon. And consign all my bacon clothes and stop bathing in melted bacon fat. I'll just proceed with life as usual...

avoid the "charming" pig with the runny nose!..

kidding aside, according to the World Health Organization, the outbreak has yet to arrive to "pandemic" level status.

all prior comments concerning human-to-human transmission are accurate.

continue to enjoy all of your favorite pork products!

you may wanna keep some hand sanitizer as a precaution when coming in contact with any visiting Derby guests this weekend. don't be obvious about it though. you don't want to offend anyone.

My family is all in Tucson. My Dad works in the "court system" and he said they aren't even processing illegals that they catch. They're pretty much just putting them on a bus and taking them back across the border to avoid having them come into the court system itself and having to expose all the workers.

My hubby is a Purnell and this misconception is hurting their sales. People, please keep eating your "Old Folks" sausage. Thanks. :D

If it makes people stop constantly blathering on about bacon then I'll allow this ignorance to be my bliss.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.
