need info on "new to me" downtown lunch places

by Ellen White » Mon Apr 27, 2009 12:58 pm

I have been eating lunch all winter at the Delta or YaChings. Delta is closed this week for Derby Week, so I went to Bistro 301. On the way back, I decided to walk up Market to 1st and then back down Main. Just wondering if anyone has tried any of these places for lunch and, if so, how's the food:

Harley's House of Brews
Queue Cafe (in LG&E building)
DeVino's Deli
VicIvan
Saffron's

Now that it's warmer, I can venture out a little farther!

Haven't tried any of those, but Luigi's on main (between 7th and 8th) has some of the best pizza in town. They also have great pastas, salads, pizza rolls, subs, and speciality sandwiches. If you search for Luigi's Louisville on Google you can find the website with a menu. You may also want to consider the Road to Morocco. It is located in the Henry Clay at 3rd and Chestnut. They have a unique atmosphere with great Moroccan food. I know neither of those places were on your list, but they are two of my favorite spots in the business district down town. If you work near the 301 neither is too far to walk, and the walk itself would be quite pleasurable on a day like today.

Queue Cafe is very good. I eat there often for lunch. Nice selection of salads and sandwiches. Very reasonably priced. Service is very friendly.

Saffron's is one of my top five restaurants in Louisville! I don't work downtown, but when I am downtown at lunchtime, I almost always eat there. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Persain food is also on of my ethnic favs.

I love Luigi's pizza. Devino's pizza wasn't all that great, but their desserts were great, and they do have a nice patio area thru Prime.
Saffron's has great service , and very good persian food.

Manhattan Deli on 5th ( not sure if that is close ) is good, as well as Pesto's .

Z's Fusion does an awesome lunch. My favorite downtown lunch spot is Caviar.

Saffron's, as noted, is outstanding. Persian food, attractive surroundings, outstanding service.
VicIvan, I believe, has very good Ethiopian dishes as well as American down-home. I would go for the Ethiopian.
I just heard of Harley's House of Brews when I got my locks shorn the other day, and the hairdressers at The Place to Go on Bardstown (where tons of foodies and food-industry people get their hair done) were chattering excitedly over a menu. Looks like the usual mix of soups, salads and sandwiches, plus a beer list that might or might not be of interest during a work-day lunch. 8)
