Where to have rehersal dinner for 50?

by Karen H » Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:18 pm

I have friends whose son is getting married in Louisville on June 6, they are looking for someplace to have the rehersal dinner on the evening of the 5th for about 50 people. They are interested in possibly a B&B venue in which to have this. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks! :D

There are only THREE B&Bs who are licensed to provide this service (have a food service license). Gallery House, Austin's and Samuel Culbertson Mansion. Since I own Gallery House, I can say that we are not available on that date. Culbertson is stunningly beautiful.

If you want to just rent the property and have it catered there are several others that will rent you space.

Culbertson West here in New Albany is a great place to have a dinner and even a wedding. Steve and Carl own several B & B also on Main St. I have personnally stayed at the BoxTree Inn and love it and also at the Culbertson West. Those 2 go out of their way to make your day or your stay great!
Also Studio's Grille & Pub in New Albany has a great outdoor courtyard which can accomadte your group also. It's located at 207 E. Main - New Albany, IN just down the road from Culbertson West.

We have attended such an event at the Tucker House (http://www.tuckerhouse1840.com/), a beautiful setting in the far East end of the county (just beyond the new Papa John's HQ). The hosts were staying at the B&B, and rented the entire place, but have no idea what the food arrangements entailed.

You might want to check out Le Gallo Rosso on Bardstown Road. Annette is the owner and she also bought the bed and breakfast. In te past they could not have acomidated that size party, but now the first floor of the bed and breakfast is all dining.

Although we are not a B&B, I could accomodate a party that large on our four season patio at Varanese. The 20' water wall feature and retractable glass wall would be a great venue for a private party. We also have live Jazz provided seven nights a week at no additional charge.

We had our RD at Tucker House and the food was wonderful. The hosts were very warm and inviting. We only had about 20 people though and had it in their dining room and everyone just barely fit! I think they could do a tented event in the back yard.

All, I'm asking is that you make sure the establishment has a food service license. Some of us have gone to the trouble, expense and have taken the sanitation class to get the extra license to serve lunches and dinners to the public. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that you can check what type of license an establishment has on Metro Health Department website. This is not a problem you run across when dealing with restaurants.

Hi Karen! Are they only interested in a B&B for the RD, or are other options open? Are there several people from out of town?

Kim,
I think they would consider another venue. They have checked out Captain's Q, Bristol, and the Galt House. They found out that the Bridal Luncheon is going to be at the Bristol so that is out. I think they were pretty pleased at what they found but were wanting more options. Most of the people at the rehersal dinner are from out of town, including my friends (parents of the groom), and will be staying in the downtown area. That is why they asked for suggestions.

I haven't been able to talk to them yet to let them know about all the info I have received here, but I really appreciate the help! Thanks a bunch everyone! :D

Not a B&B, but my wife and I had ours at Corner Cafe and it was brilliant.

This may or may not be an option for your friends, but we had our rehearsal dinner in the hotel where our guests were staying, and had it catered. A number of our guests were from out of town, much like your friends, and we didn't want to limit the rehearsal dinner to only those who were part of the party. We rented a conference room, decorated it ourselves, and brought in our own alcohol/soft drinks, etc., and had Jucy's bring in BBQ. Sounds like BBQ might not be the style of food their looking for, but you could get someone else to cater it. (we wanted to show the 'out-of-towners' what good 'Q really is!) But it was very relaxed, fun, and everyone seemed to have a great time. We were able to hang out and visit more, and most didn't have to worry about driving home! It was a rather last minute decision, but we were both so glad we did it this way!!! Just a thought. :D
