Zucchini

OK, I'm am probably going to spark a bit of a debate here, but that's what we're here for, right?

What is with the use of Zuchini as an ingredient in things? I have wound up picking it out of my lunch the last few times I've gotten something from the cafe at work, but I'm noticing it's becomeing more and more prevelent.....and man, I wish it would. Tasteless, kinda slimmy, and not appealing in my humble opinion :P

Also, some of the nicer places in town use it as a veggie on the plate.......YUCK

Well, Bill have you ever planted a single zucchini plant? I think you'd understand.

Leah, you beat me to when I was going to say! It's certainly grows and grows... and because of that it's a relatively cheap ingredient which one reason I'm sure it's being used more these days. Personally depending on how it's cooked I like it for a side, as long as it isn't over cooked and turn into mush. Of course zucchini bread is also delicious and very moist.

No, I've not planted a vine. I've seen them growing before, but never have done one myself.

I understand the "economic" factor, but geez,

Oh yes, zucchini blossoms. Stuffed with crab salad, lightly battered and quickly fried. mmmmmmm

I too like zucchini as a side dish. But it has to barely be introduced to a flame to maintain any integrity as a recognizable veggie. Tossed with some fresh oregano and basil, toasted pine nuts and Parm cheese. Again, mmmmmmm.

I love zucchini! Especially char-grilled at a cookout. And my mom raised us on fried zucchini - it was probably my favorite side dish as a kid. I am also not at all afraid to eat it raw. It's got a firm spongy texture that I've grown addicted to. Bill, you and I should go out to eat and you can give me all of your zucchini!

II am also on the "I love zucchini" side of things. I eat it raw, as well. Grated in a slaw, or sliced thinly on a salad- yum!

When tomatoes are at their best I do this zucchini, tomatoes, some time squash, garlic, green olive oil, oregano, better cheese and pasta dish. Very colorful. Very quick. I've learned to make it the main dish 'cause it's popular at the house. Out of season I roast the tomatoes. I can't taste the difference in a zucchini or squash in or out of season. It's available year around, it's cheap and it's fresh. CD
