Diamond Cafe where Taste of Jamaica Used to Be

by Charles W. » Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:24 pm

I was driving out of the Lower Brownsboro Kroger when I saw out of the corner of my eye that the Diamond Cafe (I think) is opening where Taste of Jamaica (I miss it) used to be. Any info?

I checked it out this morning and couldn't see any visible sign from the road that indicated a new restaurant. I hope something does go in there.

You know, it's something about that location ... we live in the neighborhood, go to Dirty Kroger's often and Thai Taste fairly regularly, yet I never, ever notice what's going on in that little strip center. This may explain why no eatery yet has really thrived there. And why this thread has never taken off. :(

I did get in to check out Diamond Cafe Saturday for lunch. Had the option for breakfast but the misses opted towards the lunch menu. She went with the Fried Artichoke Hearts and the house salad. Liked them both - no greasiness of the artichokes and a good salad with Balsamic vinaigrette. I had the deep fried chicken breast, greens and mashed potatoes. The greens were tangy, slightly on the salty side. The mashed potatoes were real - good sized chunks. The potatoes and chicken were covered by a chicken gravy that was wonderful. The chicken had a fresh hand breading to it, nice and thick breast that was crispy outside and still moist inside. I will be back to try the breakfast - no menu yet, but biscuits and gravy, 2 eggs bacon/sausage combo and I think pancakes. The staff were friendly and truly appreciative of our visit - not like the canned greetings you get from some of the young people at the chains.

Good to hear a positive review! Like Robin, we go by this strip center all the time and rarely mark it as a destination for places to eat (I regret that I only ate at Taste of Jamaica once...). This will bump it up in the rotation!

Thanks for the review!
