Gelato Gilberto is re-opening in Norton Commons very soon

by Jerry Zegart » Tue May 08, 2007 10:39 pm

Gelato and many other Italian goodies are coming very soon to Norton Commons on Norton Commons Blvd just about 3 storefronts from Karems. Justin feels that he can get things completed and open by May 27th, so watch this space for additional details.

Norton Commons is excited to welcome Justin and his family and their new Gelato business into Norton Commons.

Also be sure to stop by Thursday evenings for Sunset Thursdays at Karems featuring live music and great grilled to order food on Louie's outside grill. In the Louie Karem tradition it promises to be a great experience.

I drove by there this weekend and saw the storefront. I should've mentioned it here but didn't. Thanks for the update. By the way, what's your connection to these places?
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

So happy to hear about the relocation. I thought I would treat myself after a major weight loss and headed to the Summit for a small cup of gelato. Needless to say I was very disappointed.
I'm still feeling my way around- where is Norton Commons?
I need my gelato.

We are excited to live in Norton Commons and be a part of it

by Jerry Zegart » Wed May 09, 2007 12:49 am

You asked me “What is your relationship to Karems and Gelato Gilberto.” Purely a patron. We live in Norton Commons and it is exciting to see the growth in our business district. We live about a block from the business area so it is very close to home.

Some try to compare Norton Commons to the Highlands or other old Louisville areas. They obviously have not driven into the area, although at 1st glance it may not be obvious.

On the commercial side- Saratoga is open in our live works area now and features many beautiful home accessories and very special hand made jewelry. Goldberg and Simpson will move and open their new law offices shortly in their beautiful 30,000 square foot building. That will be followed by an old time fire station and then the 100,000 square foot Klienert and Kutz medical specialist Building. Rumor has it that we may be getting a new Catholic School and Church too!

On the food side- I’ve already mentioned Gelato Gilberto and Karem’s Pub and Grill. An Asian Restaurant will open in the months ahead too, all of which are in our live works district where the owners can and do in many cases live above their business. Rumor has it that an Italian Restaurant is in the works too! So on the commercial side there is a lot going on now and many more announcements to come over the years ahead.

But it is the residents that make the community. There are homes and condos at every price point and apartments too. The community comes from very broad diverse backgrounds of all ages. There is a real sense of community not found anywhere else in Louisville... and it is for that reason that I am very excited to update this space as Norton Commons continues to develop over the next 10 to 15 years.

Spend “Sunset Thursday” at Karems and drive around and check out the area. Keep in mind that we are less than 4 percent complete and I think you will quickly understand my excitement!

Made a trip out there Sunday- not an easy place to find, but so worth it. The melon was yummy.

Tried it today - very good!

by Doug W » Thu Jun 14, 2007 3:26 pm

I just stopped by this afternoon. I sampled the strawberry, which was tasty. The look of the mixed berry pulled me in though, so I went with a medium serving ($3.75) of that. Delicious! I'm afraid I may have to add a few miles to the workout though because I think I'll be stopping by more often.

It is almost too easy to pull up, grab some gelato and be on your way. They were very friendly and had several varieties available.

If you haven't tried them yet you are missing out!

On another note, it was nice to see that Mr. Gilbert was there, talking to customers. As I was pulling out, I also noticed that Louie Karem was at his place as well, talking to customers on the sidewalk. Very nice to see this sort of thing and makes the experience somehow nicer.

Cheers,

Doug

Check out tonight and every Thursday Night at Norton Com...

by Jerry Zegart » Thu Jun 14, 2007 4:50 pm

It began as Sundown Thursdays at Karems just a few weeks ago. It has grown very quickly to a block party EVERY Thursday night featuring Karem's, Gilberto Gelato and Saratoga.

They close off Norton Commons Blvd at Karem's, bring your own chair (seating is limited and the crowd is big) and enjoy hot food off the grill with live entertainment and yes a beautiful sunset to match.

The fun begins around 6:00 and last into the night. 8)

Prepackaged sales?

by SheilaB » Thu Jun 14, 2007 5:17 pm

Don't know if anyone from Gilberto is out there, but if you are, do you have any plans to sell packaged pints of gelato in the highlands or st. matthews? Your gelato is fantastic, but I rarely make it out to Norton's Commons and can't imagine I'd make more than the occassional trip just for gelato. However, I'd definitely pick up a pint from Lotsa Pasta, Valu Market on Bardstown or even Old Town Liquors if such a thing existed.

Robin come out and see for yourself next Thursday night

by Jerry Zegart » Fri Jun 15, 2007 12:00 am

Another 200 to 300 people enjoyed a beautiful sunset tonight at Karems and the other Norton Common's business also enjoyed meeting and serving people from all over the metro area. When you come by I highly recommend that you bring your own folding chairs as seating is very limited, but the music is great and the crowd seemed to really enjoy themselves.

In about 2 to 3 weeks the Chinese Restaurant should open next to Karems (Louie’s) and provide another mix to the blend including gourmet teas and Sushi as well as many other Asian delights. As I understand it the family running it, ran other successful Asian Restaurants in Arizona before moving to Louisville. They like the Gilbert family are living above their business in the live works district of Norton Commons.

So there is a lot going on in the Commons and with the soon to be announced Catholic School and Church a lot to look forward to over the years ahead. Keep in mind that what you see now is only a very small fraction of what will be over the years ahead (less than 4%)!

Stop by anytime and enjoy shopping at Saratoga, followed by an excellent meal at Karems and desert a Gelato Gilberto. It's a great way to spend any night, but Thursday nights are even more special with the street closing and the GREAT entertainment.

We went yesterday to get some gelato. I had the Nutella flavor. It was orgasmic.

My brother had the tiramisu flavored, hubby had the berry, and my 4 year old niece got strawberry. Granted, she wore more than she ate. Well worth the drive. I wouldn't do it every night, but once or twice a month, I might.
