a new request for derby night restaurant

by Edward C » Sun Apr 19, 2009 12:23 pm

First of all... thanks to everyone for their help and offerings. We're blown away by the friendly-nature of Louisville foodies!!

But after some consideration, after the derby we're going to head on out of town on I-64 toward Lexington. It's a road trip after all. Any one have any good, classic, and rustic country dinning choices on the I-64 corridor? I'd be willing to venture off the highway (in fact i'd prefer it).

Let me know.

I can't think of a more quintessential Kentucky meal than Sunday brunch at either Science Hill Inn in Shelbyville, Ky. or Holly Hill Inn in Midway, Ky. Both very easy to find on the I-64 corridor between Louisville and Lexington. I'm partial to Science Hill for food alone but both are wonderful and exactly what you are looking for.

Old Stone Inn is only about a mile off 64. We've had hit and miss experiences there. I would definitely make a reservation.
The physician I work for just ate at Science Hill and had nothing but good things to say about it.

I second the recommendation for Holly Hill Inn. If they are booked I would consider Heirloom.

If you want rustic country style steakhouse, you might want to pay a visit to Cattleman's right off of I-64 in Shelbyville.

Three for Holly Hill Inn. Beautiful place in quaint Midway. Very close to two of the Bourbon Distiller tours ( Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve) right off 64 so if you have time you could make a side trip there.

Also, if you want to do a Bourbon tour- you may want to check out Woodford's Picnic on the Porch for lunch. The food is now catered by the Holly Hill Inn owners, and while I haven't tried it, I'd bet it's really good.

Welcome to Kentucky!
