Tex-Mex in Germantown?

by Paul T Carney » Tue May 08, 2007 2:04 pm

I zipped through Germantown the other day, and noticed out of the corner of my eye a big wall sign near Oak and Logan that mentioned "Tex-Mex" . . . I was in a hurry, and I haven't had a chance to go back by.
Any idea what I saw?
I miss my old neighborhood, and it's been really interesting to see the food/drink changes that have taken place.

I drove by it on Sunday

The signs say Smoketown USA-Pit BBQ and Tex-Mex. I plan to give it a try in the next few days-I'd love to see a decent BBQ place in the area. Mark's smokeless and soggy fare just doesn't do it for me.
I'll post a report if it's any good.

Tex-Mex in Germantown?

by Paul T Carney » Wed May 09, 2007 10:30 am

Thanks Clay.
I'm (according to a friend) a "flexitarian", which means I only rarely eat meat (special occasions, visiting, etc.) . . . so I still give in to the bbq urge once in a very blue moon . . . let us know!

Pretty good ribs, much better than Mark's. Juicy and flavorful. The pulled meat bbq's (I tried all 3) were dry and undersmoked to my taste. Fully half of the menu is tex-mex, which I didn't sample on this trip, but everything I saw on other tables looked good. I'll hit it again next week and try some of the mexican dishes.

There must be two restaurants we're talking about. The Smoketown Pitt BBA and Tex-Mex is identified on another thread as being at Oak and Logan.

There's a Smoketown BBQ (don't remember Tex-Mex) recently opened at Preston and Atwood (or so). I tried their pulled pork the other day and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the meat sans sauce.

Are these two places connected?

Smoketown USA-where barbeque and tex-mex MEAT

by Jessica Devine » Fri May 18, 2007 11:17 pm

It's called Smoketown USA on Oak right before the railroad tracks coming back from Old Louisville. That may be Mary Street that crosses Oak there. My aunt and uncle own it and they've worked really hard. I don't eat barbeque, but I've had the tacos and they are delicious. Actually, I brought a pulled pork sandwich home for my boyfriend tonight and he said that everything was great.

It's on Logan @ Oak, the folks who run it are very friendly and the Q is pretty good.

Ate at Smoketown USA tonight. I thought the Ribs were absolutely great. The meat had a great smoky flavor that was complemented by the sauce (sometimes the sauce just overwhelms the flavor of the meat).

The Pintos and Greens were both very good as well. Turns out all their sides are vegetarian-friendly. Who knew?

BTW, they've dropped the "Mex" half of the menu--it's all BBQ and sides now.

This will become a favorite.

If you're looking to save a buck, too...

If you visit http://www.restaurant.com, you'll find they have Smoketown USA BBQ (1153 Logan Street, 502-409-9180) gift certificates on sale, as well as g.c.s for other Louisville restaurants. You can get a $25 g.c. for $10 or $50 g.c. for $20. There are certain restrications (minimum food purchase amounts) but if you are certain you'll be eating there, sounds like it'd be a great deal.

Did they have the yellow caution tape in an 'x' on the front door when you dined there? I drive past there a lot and it sure gives the impression that the business is closed.

It's confusing because there are two Smoketowns! Smoketown BBQ is on Preston (near Nord's Bakery) and has yellow caution tape on the door. I don't know the health of their operation.

Smoketown USA BBQ is at Oak and Logan. The food is great. I hope the business is as well.
