Cafe 360--What's going on there?

by Brad Keeton » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:42 am

For maybe (???) a week, there has been yellow tape around the front of Cafe 360 (Bardstown Rd./Bonnycastle Ave.), with a large portable dumpster on the Bonnycastle side and lots of people milling around inside at all hours. These people don't look like patrons, and everyone is standing--they appear to be workers.

Are they remodeling? Is a new restaurant coming in? Anyone know?

Hopefully just remodeling. The loss of Karma and 360 in a single month would be a serious blow to late night dining on Bardstown Road. La Bamba really isn't exactly an appetizing alternative.

I would hate to lose 360 as well. It's been a good thing to have.

About La Bamba, I used to find it disgusting but I've come around recently. I think they are doing better, using fresh ingredients. You can have a killer meal on the cheap out of just yummy corn chips, beans, rice, and avocado chunks.

La Bamba is about halfway serious Latino ethnic. Try the torta rather than the giant burritos ... they make a real torta. And horchata to wash it down ...

I haven't eaten there in years, but I used to really like La Bamba. It always reminded me of the late-night taco stands in Chicago, and I thought the flavors and the salsa were great. I usually ordered the tacos, though, not the burritos. 'Tacos as big as your hand' (sorry). I would get three of them, with different meats, and it was filling, tasty, and inexpensive.

I talked with the owner last weekend out at Dak Shin (he owns that as well) & he told me they were remodeling.

La Bamba or 360? I travel to Champaign, Ill., occasionally and they have a La Bamba there as well.

My wife and I used to go to 360 quite a bit, but it seems that last summer they got to be very inconsistent and we haven't been back.

He's talking about the owner of 360. I wouldn't expect Cafe 360 to go anywhere for a long time.

Well, good to hear. I was out of town over the weekend, and passed by there early early this morning on my way home from the airport, and even MORE is going on. All the kitchen equipment, tables, etc. were all sitting out on the sidewalk.

Are they changing the menu/style or just the decor?

I waddled by last Friday on my way to Seviche and there were signs in the windows saying they were open upstairs. I don't know if it's a limited menu or not, but they appear to be open through the construction.

Maybe it's staff training on how to not take 2 hours to get you your meal.

I'll have to give the torta a try then. The giant burritos are definitely not my thing, but I guess I shouldn't judge it on those alone.
