I know it's a benefit for Dare to Care, but who runs the restaurant-exhibitor part of it?

I have a question Andrew. We've been to Taste of Derby many times over the past years. I loved it at the Palace. I went 2 years ago and was shoved, bumped, spilled on and actually left early because of claustrophobia. Are you selling more and more tickets? I would rather pay a higher price and limit the crowd.

hi linda,
sorry that it has taken me a day to answer.
since we moved to slugger field in 2004, we have never sold more than 1100 tickets to this event. there are are roughly another 250 industry people / volunteers there as well. if the weather is great ( fingers crossed ) the crowd spreads out.
i love the taste, it is a great event. of course i have a bias here.
you would be one of the few people willing to spend more for tickets.
there are tons of fundraising events that have high ticket prices, have celebrities, $10,000. silent auction items, etc. we don't have that.
this event is all about raising money for dare to care and 100 % of the proceeds go to dare to care.
D.T.C. has distributed 95% of the food taken in, in the last year. that is nearly 12 million pounds of food. while running a 5% administrative cost.
if you go to charity navigator, dare to care is one of their top ten "slam dunks".
the people at dare to care are the best, most dedicated people i know.
i would rather have someone send $25. or $50. directly to d.t.c. than attend this event and think poorly of it.
i, as a board member, will gladly meet anyone, anytime, at dare to care for a tour of the facility.
you see it, and what they do, and you are a believer!
hope to see you at the taste!

Thank you Andrew....I love your charity, have supported and sent money to it and Nancy R is an old pal of mine...though I know she's not there any more. We even took a client to the event a few years ago. I used to love the Taste of Louisville and was there at the first one, but since they moved it to the Olmstead, the crowding and the heat make it miserable. There are many of us who get very claustrophobic in crowds; it's a really miserable condition. (I almost passed out at the Taste of Chicago.) Thanks for the response.

thanks linda,
it's funny. we had participated in the taste for the first time maybe 10 or 11 years ago. i wasn't really thrilled with the event. there were hardly any people there and we had tons of leftover food. we were upstairs and no one came up there.
nancy russman went to work for dare to care as manager of the d.t.c. kids cafe's. well, everyone at d.t.c. does every job and she was put in charge of getting restaurants for the event. she called me to ask how the evnt was the year before and i went on a five minute rant about how weak i thought it was.how this could be done better and that could be done better. after i was done talking she said " you finished??", i said yes. she then said "great, love your ideas and glad of you to volunteer to be on the taste comittee".
of course, i hadn't volunteered anything of the sort, but i had been roped in!
the event is a lot of work, but it is also a lot of fun ( at least for the industry people and those who aren't claustrophobic).
best to you,
andrew

No....I was talking about Taste of Louisville. If anyone remembers, it started in 1975 with the Colgins as fundraiser for JCC. It was at Exec West and very, very nice. People wore evning wear, men wore tuxes and the best restaurants were always there. So was Burger Queen with cole slaw! Now, it's at the Olmstead and is so crowded, hot and not very good. The Taste of Derby has always been fabulous!

The Taste of Louisville has a changed venue this year. It will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which was the former Executive Inn, the original birthplace of the first Taste of Louisville. With this additional room, it allows for more room for restaurants and beverage companies to operate and more room for attendees to mingle and nosh. It looks to be a fun event this year.

We had a blast! I took 65 dozen cookies and ran out at 7:15. Totally out of product.
