A young foodie in the making!

by Kris Billiter » Tue Apr 14, 2009 9:51 am

So I was on my way to drop off my 2 year old kiddo this morning. We are waiting on Hurstbourne right about where Barnes and Noble is located, when she says, "Daddy, that way is to Shiraz! We like Shiraz!" I was so proud! Not sure why or how she remembers where that location is since she couldn't even see it yet, but she does. We passed all the chains and not a single word, but we get anywhere near Shiraz and she pipes up. Made my morning!

I get the same thing from my 3 year old...

If I give her a choice, here's her "foodie" list, in no particular order...except Sushi is always her first choice.

1) Sushi--specifically this means Fuji or Hiko-a-Mon. She eats rolls, minus the seaweed...too hard to chew.

2) Shiraz--It's like a second home for us. We love Moe on Hurstbourne!

3) Turkey Joe's--Also a place we're treated like family

4) Wild Eggs--Powdered sugar on pancakes, she's hooked.

5) "Quesadilla"--This means Qdoba, I guess that's a chain.

6) Lou Lou--First place she tried soup

Wish I could get my nephews to try something besides McDonalds and Pizza......Yes, I know there is some fab pizza in this town, but the stuff they like is Gatti Land and Cee Cee's

I mention something like Sushi, Indian, or Chinese and get this look like "Uncle Bill has lost it"......

I congratulate you all on raising such epicurious folks.

My grandson (9 years old) told me the other day that he can't wait till he was old enough to cross "the big streets" so he could go to Oriental House or King Wok (not sure of name .. in Krogers s/c Hubbards Ln) by himself. I asked about Mcdonalds and he said he didn't like it.

Paint me green with envy.
Out with the tween nephew just yesterday, we could only agree to On The Border. They actually had a not inedible shrimp taco on their new heart healthy menu.

We are very excited that at least for now, our little one will eat just about anything. We were at Lou Lou's a couple of weeks ago and she devoured some of our pizza (mediterranean?) and pasta (tortellini with shrimp). She will grow up trying new and fun things unlike me, who was very picky growing up. It's fun to see her get excited about her favorite restaurants at such a young age!

It does make it nicer for everyone doesn't it? Since our 2 were off baby food, they have eaten pretty much what we have. Not not that they didn't have their picky moments, but for the most part they really prefer good food. Now they are 14 and 11 and still like to eat well. We lived in England for a couple of years and their adventurous spirits made it so much easier for us. I think exposure is the key. We never forced them to eat anything but did encourage them to give everything 3 bites. I remember my daughter ordering frutti di mare at the now defunct DaVinci's. The waiter told her/us that "she won't like that". We assured him we wouldn't complain to him if she didn't. (Knowing she loved it) Her only complaint, to us not him, was there was no calamari and the mussels were a bit sandy, not enough garlic. Cracked us up........

While we were on Spring Break, a friend's son asked for a Lunchable. My 5-year-old said, "Mom, what's a Lunchable?"

The cake was beautiful before the kid attack. I preferred the after picture. Looked more like my rugrats when they were young and grandkids now.
