First visit to Corbett's

by Rebecca Clark » Mon Apr 13, 2009 6:41 pm

FINALLY! A friend and I made it to Corbett's today for lunch and a little girl talk. After reading everyone's comments from the off-line, the bar was set pretty high. I am very glad to say that I was not disappointed!

Both of us decided to do the Prix-Fixe (I do not believe there is a better deal in town). My friend enjoyed the Calamari, Olive Caponata, and Hot Sauce appetizer. I thought I noticed her wiping the drool from her mouth! She raved about this dish. Her husband dropped by to bring her something and he arrived right after the appetizer. After having a bite, he proclaimed it the best Calamari ever. I opted for the soup of the day: Shrimp Bisque. Simply amazing. And the little Potato-Rosemary rolls - well, I could have eaten my weight in those. One of the tastiest breads I've had in quite some time.

On to the main course. My friend enjoyed the Prime Beef Tips with Pappardelle & Mushrooms. I sampled this dish, not expecting much as I am not a big beef eater. Needless to say, this will be my first choice on the next visit! The beef tips were tender and extremely flavorful. The cucumber sauce was a very refreshing and different taste for me, yet it was the perfect compliment for the Beef Tips. I enjoyed the Sauteed Shrimp and Linguine with Spinach, Tomato, Lemon, Feta Cheese & Herbs. It was good, but not as good as the Beef Tips.

Dessert followed. My friend enjoyed the Vanilla Creme Brulee while I enjoyed the Cheesecake with Berries. Once again, my friend hit the jackpot. The Creme Brulee had a wonderful thick consistency and was absolutely FANTASTIC! The cheesecake was good, but paled in comparison to the Creme Brulee.

Our server, Nellie, was attentive but not intrusive. And, I believe this is a first, we didn't have to ask for anything ... she anticipated our needs and met them before they were ever spoken. The only faux pas was the butter dish; Nellie brought us an empty one. She quickly corrected the slight problem and everything else was perfect.

On my way out the door, I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Deano and was able to express my appreciation for such a wonderful lunch and a fantastic atmosphere. What a treasure Chef Deano is!

My sister is coming to town this weekend and Corbett's will be on the list of places for her to experience. If you haven't tried it yet, it needs to move to the top of your list.
