Road to Morocco

Greetings, I hope everyone is well. I have been a user of these boards for several years, however it has been quite some time since I have actually posted or contributed. Last night after a great show at the Bunbury I dropped in to the Road to Morocco for a late night meal of sorts. My wife and I could not help but marvel at the uniqueness of the environment, quality of food, and service. Most of the decor in the restaurant is Moroccan and can be purchased if you desire. On this night he had Moroccan music playing over a sound system, however it is my understanding that live music can also be found from time to time. My wife enjoyed the feta sandwich, a warm pocket pita stuffed with slightly melted feta. As advertised, it was perfectly heated so the feta was warm, but not melted. It was very simple, but also delicious. I had the Casablanca Platter. It came with hummus, babagnooj, yogurt, and feta. The Moroccan style babagnooj is an egg plant dip with several unknown seasonings, though I did detect some cumin. The yougurt was also seasoned with a bit of cumin and olive oil. The platter was served with warm pita chips and was really enough for a nice vegetarian meal. We enjoyed this meal with two glasses of Moroccan wine and our bill only came to 25 bucks and some change. Everything on the menu was priced fairly low with the Chicken Tagine, stewed small pieces of chicken with preserved lemon & olives served with bread for 12.50 being the most expensive item. All of the Moroccan cuisine on the menu is definitively Mediterranean, yet distinctively different than the fare one can find at a place such as the Grape Leaf. I felt the need to chime in on my experience here as on this particular Saturday night around 10 the only patrons were those from the theater. I would hate to see this place become a victim of the current economic times before I am able to get back several more times to try some of the other items on the menu! The show going on at the Bunbury, Dearly Departed, is also world class so anyone interested may want to make a night of it.

I eat lunch there whenever I can. I have been a huge fan of Eddie's ever since he opened. It is a difficult location, but worth the trip! We have loved everything we have ever tried! Last trip in we had two dinners with 3 glasses of wine and a bourbon for $48!!! Most places, you can't get the alcohol for that price! LOL I hope everyone gives it a try as well as the Bunbury! Which, I personally, think is Louisville's best kept secret. The plays are always fabulous and Jurgen Tossman is a comedic genius!
