Mr. Garr,

My email address was my married name but now I go by my maiden name, should I change my email address to my my maiden name? I am not trying to start a rumor, I was just commenting on Seviche and how much I have appreciated this forum. It was the staff at Mojitos that told me about Fernando leaving.

Not a rumor, I'm selling my part at both Mojito and Havana Rumba not to an outside party, but to my partners so nothing will change, they are competent people that know what they are doing. I have an opportunity of opening restaurants in Margarita Island and Bonaire so please if you are ever there look me up drinks are on me. I was planning to post something here when everything was final but somebody beat me to it. We are not leaving yet, we will be here for 2 or 3 months so please come by and say hello. Thank you for supporting me for all these years. I'm going to miss Louisville and the people.

I googled up the following for anyone else who had no idea...

Margarita Island- Pearl of the Spanish Caribe!
Margarita is often called the Miami Beach or Cancun of Venezuela. Cruise Ships call home on the barren, west end filled with cactus and desert mountains, and airlines arrive from Florida and South America into the island filled with beaches, rain forests, reefs and big city restaurants, attractions, traffic and noise!

The island is 40 miles by 19 miles and covers 440 square miles, with over 100 miles of beach just 24 miles off the coast of mainland Venezuela. The island features over 50 beaches and the surrounding waters were filled with sea pearls- so rich- that Spain forced native Indians into being pearl divers, and shipping the pearl treasure to Spain. Columbus arrived here in the 1500’s and there are historical forts and cathedrals that can be visited here dating to the 1550’s. The main city of this island of over 350,000 people is Porlomar but the modern gem can be found in the beach resorts on the north coast of Playa Caribe, Juangriego, Playa la Cruz, and the most popular and trendy place- Playa El Agua. The south coast is one of the best windsurfing spots in the Caribbean and the island terrain is great for hiking, riding 4x4s, hang gliding and bird watching.

I'm excited, but equally sad Gary. I have so many friends here, so many people that I met because of my restaurants. My kids were born here; I met my wife here, so many great memories. Louisville is a great place that I'm going to miss. I'll post from there and check on things and let everybody know how and doing. Fernando.

Fernando,

Thanks for sharing your incredible talent with all of us. Both Mojito's and Havana Rumba will be in the same great hands that helped build them (which means I can reassure my beautiful bride after she regains consciousness, fainted after reading the post). We were fortunate to have you here and Louisville will always be a home for you and your family. I'm excited for your new adventure, enjoy your island paradise and please update us when possible about your travels. Best to you and your lovely family.

Kindest Regards,

Ed, Cindy & Duncan Vermillion

Fernando & Christina

Louisville is so blessed to have your culinary talents and the end results in Havana Rumba and Mojitos. Many an evening we have enjoyed the wonderful food and refreshing libations and will continue to do so. It has been a pleasure to know both of you and share your passion for Latin cuisine. We wish you continued success in your further ventures, although our hearts are heavy with the loss of both of you from the Louisville area.

Fernando...

Now I have another good reason for finally visiting Bonaire (aside from the SCUBA diving)....thank you for bringing "Havana Rumba" and "Mojitos" to Louisville.

We're sorry to learn that you're moving, but appreciate these two fine restaurants that you leave behind as your legacy.

Thank you so much for what you have done bringing us Havana Rumba. It is our favorite restaurant in the city. You will be missed! Best of luck in your new ventures!

Havana Rumba and Mojito's were two dining highlights of our trips to Louisville last year. Not to favor one restaurant over the other, but the stuffed figs at Mojito's made my wife absolutely swoon. You've done a great job of creating a wonderful dining experience Fernando, thank you!

Hmmm, maybe we should start planning the long distance offline now.

Yeah Bonare! Such a beautiful island, but not a lot of people are familiar with it. My family has been going there for years and have a time share at the Divi. Please keep us posted as to your progress. It Rains Fishes has been my fave place on Bonaire, but I am pretty sure I can make room for a new number one! Good luck Fernando!

I hope I did not cause a problem with repeating what the staff at Mojitos told me. I figured that the cat was out of the bag. I was very concerned when they told me that Fernando was leaving and Mojitos was being sold to a group from the O'Charleys restaurant chain and Havana Rumba was the location that would be sold to the current partners. Fernando I wish you the best
