Welcome to the Louisville Restaurants Forum, a civil place for the intelligent discussion of the local restaurant scene and just about any other topic related to food and drink in and around Louisville.
On occasion I work with a guy who has told me about an old restaurant that used to be on Preston called Codispotis. This would have been several years ago, long before my Louisville time.I believe it was an American Italian place where Sams club is now. Anyone remember this place or what it was like?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it. And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.
I remember it well. It was on Preston not quite where the current Sams is now but that general area. It was a small little stand alone place that had the wonderful smell of marinara and garlic as soon as you hit the front door and classic family service. It was directly across from the old Preston Drive in. My guess is it closed in about '83 give or take. I grew up well further out where there wasn't much in the way of good family restaurants. I've mentioned this place over the years to many folks as it has always remained dear in my memory. I remember a mural painted on the dining room wall and a even a simple little juke box in the later years. It was the first place I ever had real authentic Italian food as I thought ravioli came out of a can by Chef Boyardee until then. I distincly remember stuffed manicoti and their wonderful spaghetti. It was an all time favorite for me and I still miss it.
On a side note, the only place I've ever seen that has the same feel is Bove's Restaurant in Burlington, VT. if you've ever been there you would have an idea of Codispotis.
