I really miss Cafe Mimosa now

by jpdurbin » Tue Apr 07, 2009 5:39 pm

I really wanted some good 'Shrimp with Lobster Suace', some 'Egg Drop Soup' and an eggroll so I tried a place I have never used before and will probably not again. Not mentioning the place but the food in order: awful, watered down with no chives/scallions/onions and oilly!

After this disaster, I looked up Cafe Mimosas' old website (http://www.cafemimosatogo.com) and they say they will be back.

Any idea when and where?

Red Pepper on Brownsboro Rd. has excellent shrimp w/ lobster sauce...one of my favorite Chinese dishes.

The egg rolls at the Egg Roll Machine were the best. They were huge and actually had some meat and a decent amount of veggies. I have not found a satisfactory substitute. Has anyone tried the takeout place across the street from St. Matthews Station ? I hear it's pretty good and they deliver.

I miss it too. Hopefully The Pink Door will soon be opening up with its new food focus as the Pink Door Express. That will hopefully be a nice new option.

What about La Que on Bardstown Road? I don't have the menu memorized or anything, but I had carry out from them recently. They have the traditional Chinese dishes as well as a variety of Thai and Vietnamese, just like Lemongrass Cafe was when it was in the same spot. In fact I'm pretty sure it has the same owners. I had the Tom Yum soup with mock chicken (lots of Ginger root, tomatoes, rice, sweet~tangy broth, and of course, choice of protein) - num num. I'll go with them again. Hard to judge based on the one dish I've tried, but I'm sure it's a decent substitute for the Mimosa sabbatical.

Thanks for the reminder about La Que! I had never checked them out and had no idea it was similar to Lemongrass. In fact, the name La Que led me to believe that it was a Mexican place.

Do you have any details on this?

You think you miss this place that is promising to come back?

I miss Kim's so bad all the time and it's never coming back. Plus I never heard they were closing until the day it was happening and couldnt make it down there for one last meal. I'll never have the Mock Chicken Sesame, Vegetarian Chopchae or egg rolls like they made again. I've been to Lee's and while I can at least get Chopchae it just inst the same.

I am kind of a big deal.

Interesting. I've never had Tom Yum with rice in it. Never, anywhere. And I've had a lot of Tom Yum. :-)

The rice was served in a carton on the side. I've never been anywhere that didn't serve rice on the side with it, and I always put it in. I love tom yum soup, and always with rice in it.

jp out of curiosity is the place you mentioned in relative proximity to mimosa? I tried this new place for delivery a week or so ago and in a word terrible. No flavor what so ever. I imagine it may be the same place but maybe not. I called shared my disbelief and they were more than happy to send a new order out. It tasted the same. I never realized something as simple as pad tai could be so royaly screwd up and the tom yum, forget about it. Live and learn.

If they do come back (I'd love it if they do) I hope they use the exact same signage.; Cafe Mimosa, EGG ROLL MACHINE....especially the Egg Roll Machine part

If they return, then I hope their sushi improves. It was unfortunate to lose Cafe Mimosa, but I'm not missing a thing relating to the sushi. I don't mean this to sound vindictive; just my opinion.

I wish I did. I only know that much thanks to a post on Consuming Louisville (which I would link to but the page isn't loading at the moment) containing a picture of a sign in the door saying something like "Reopening Soon as Pink Door Express."

Joe P.,

The place I ordered from is not on the Baxter/B-town corridor. Someone else who ordered that day also had issues with her food but two days later reordered and it was fine.

Bad day I guess but I'll pass next time.
