Jazz Factory Back for at Least two Months

by Charles W. » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:41 pm

Jazz Factory going to make a run for it in April and May under new management. If it works, then they'll keep going.

Great news. Where can we find a schedule of the shows?

The article's not quite accurate but, hey, it's the C-J.

Though they may occasionally venture into that territory, Bert Lams, Tom Griesgraber and Zak Riles aren't necessarily a jazz act. Lams plays full time with the California Guitar Trio and Griesgraber plays a C-Stick.

Likewise, Phantom Family Halo is definitely not jazz.

To correct the LEO blurb on the same topic, the upcoming Lams, Greisgraber, Riles show isn't the first one in the space since the Jazz Factory's closing. That was last weekend with Lucky Pineapple; Everything, Now; and Casper and the Cookies. Brad Keeton mentioned it here in the music and art forum. It was a great gig.

That said, I'm looking forward to whatever Tyler and crew book for the room. From the sounds of it so far, It will undoubtedly be of high quality.

Does anybody know who owns the place now?

Bill Weyland and his City Properties group still own the building. That hasn't changed that I know of.

They're just allowing Tyler and some Glassworks staff an opportunity to make a go of the space.

Yes, Ken (McKinley) Moore told me about the plans for this at the LP show on Friday, and he will be helping out with the booking I believe (he both manages Lucky Pineapple and blows glass at Glassworks). This may be misplaced on this forum, as I don't think there will be any food served, but please please get out and support this if you can. I anticipate all upcoming shows to be great (and I'm happy to post them as I hear about them on the music and art forum). It would be a shame to let this wonderful space go to waste.

Saturday's show was great, though I unfortunately had to cut out before LP finished their set. Please get out and support - drinks are VERY well priced, FWIW. The place was packed, mostly by word of mouth (and perhaps the posting over on the M&A forum).

I should add that the combination of great muscial acts, followed by live glass blowing demonstrations by VERY talented artists, mixed with a little fire-spinning, makes for a great evening. In how many other cities would you have the opportunity to see all of this in one location?
