The ONLY vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Louisville is Zen Garden. As far as markets go, I don't know about any being 90% veg/vegan. I'm not saying that there aren't any - I just don't know if they hit that 90% mark.

I don't pretend to know the purpose of the question, but I can say that I've been vegetarian for 28 years and DD is vegan for 3 years and 18 years or so vegetarian before that and we can always find something to eat at ANY restaurant. She shops at lot at Whole Foods and Rainbo Blossom. I shop mostly at Aldi.

But as far as I know Zen Garden is the only restaurant that meets your specific question. And I assume the Tea House under the same ownership as Zen.

Ramsi's is a good place to try, lots of sandwiches especially ones that arent just avacado and lettuce.

Vietnam Kitchen and Lemongrass Cafe are the forerunners of the omnivorous asian restaurants.

At Amici you can check out the vegan pizza they have on their menu.

Third Ave Cafe has several veggie and vegan options as well.

I am kind of a big deal.

Studio's Grille and Pub in New Albany (209 E. Main) is vegan friendly. We make our own veggie burger and offer a variety of vegatables, along with Hummus and veggies/crackers. Even our green beans our made only with veggie seasoning and no ham or chicken in them at all. Plus we have pasta's too!

We are both vegetarians, and have found most every restaurant in Louisville will try to make something for you if you ask. If you are vegan you may need to explain to the server what that means, but again, most chefs don't have a problem w/ that request.

As everyone else is saying, vegetarian is not a problem here at all. I personally love North End's vegie enchiladas.

Westport General Store has 4 vegetarian items and one Vegan. I know this is not extensive but it seems to work for us.

All of the Indian restaurants in town have a large number of Vegan/Vegetarian dishes. My favorite two Indian restaurants are probably Dak Shin and Bombay Grill. However, Kashmir's Shahi Paneer Korma and Malai Kofta are delicious, and I think their vegetable pakoras are the best in town simply because they're larger, with bigger chunks of vegetables.

Simply Thai also has some amazing TVP that you can get in pretty much any dish for no extra charge. I think they have the best Pad Thai in town, but their pineapple and massaman curries are also excellent.

I believe Sweet Surrender on Frankfort does an exclusively vegetarian lunch.

Correct, and I should have remembered that. As reviewed in The Voice-Tribune last November:

Sweet Surrender, as the name suggests, got its start as a desserts-only place, and desserts remain a central part of its appeal. But this peripatetic eatery, which started on Frankfort Avenue, moved to Bardstown Road for a while and came back to Clifton last year, has recently added a short but appealing selection of salads, soups and sandwiches that's all-vegetarian and includes a few vegan options.

...

The menu features about a dozen affordably priced items, ranging in price from $2.99 (for a bulghur wheat salad with fine-diced pears and dried cranberries) to $7.99 (for most of the sandwiches). Sandwiches come with your choice of a scoop of the bulghur salad or a ration of Sun Chips; add $2 for a cup of soup or an edamame bean salad.

We figured vegetarian fare would be on the lighter side, so ordered a bowl of the soup of the day and two sandwiches, and ended up with such a hearty lunch that we went light on dinner that evening.

Their quiche is amazing. I once had a red pepper, portobella, and brie quiche that was soft and warm in the center, while perfectly crispy and slightly sweet on the edges. They also have 1/2 slices of cake available during lunch, which is a great deal if your sweet tooth has limits. (No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough already! Sorry for stealing that from Snatch.)

Thanks for the kind words about Sweet Surrender's lunch!

We serve lunch Tuesday through Saturday 11am-2pm. Our lunch menu can be found at http://www.sweetsurrenderdessertcafe.com/lunch_menu.htm.

The star next to some of the items indicates that the dish is vegan or can be made vegan. We also always have vegan cupcakes on hand, and we've been experimenting with some new recipes. I recommend trying our new coconut cupcakes.
