Schlafly APA Cask Night @ Cafe Lou Lou Highlands Tues 4/7

by Marsha L. » Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:34 pm

Join Scott Schreffler from Schlafly Beer and the cast and crew of Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands for the first-ever Louisville tapping of a fresh cask of Schlafly APA.

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday April 7th, 2009, we will be tapping a firkin of Schlafly Dry-Hopped APA at Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands. Cask conditioned beer undergoes natural carbonation in the cask and is served at a higher temperature to create a very unique drinking experience. This cask will have an additional amount of hops added to it for an extra dose of hoppy goodness. You will be able to keep the glass of every pint you buy. Come on out and help us drain the cask!

MMMMmmmm...I'm not a big Schlafly fan but we could always use a few extra glasses to go alongside the Flintstone Jelly Jar/Glasses in the cupboard. Color us a there.

Sounds like somewhere I want to be. I'm always up for cask-conditioned beer and free glasses. I'll try to round up some people and see you there at 6.

For those of you who might be attending, I spoke to one of our brewers today. I found out that the cask we will be getting for Cafe Lou Lou has an additional dry-hopping in cask with whole flower Liberty and Chinook hops. Chinook hops are a classic American hop. They are high alpha acid (but that bitterness will not be as present during the dry-hopping in cask), are slightly more floral than the popular Cascade hop, and have a pleasant pineiness (sp?) to them. Liberty hops are also a domestic hop, but they owe more to old world hops such as the noble German variety, Hallertau. They are primarily used as aroma hops. I know this is a little geeky, but I figured some of you might want to know. Hope to see alot of you there next Tuesday. Cheers, all.

Just wanted to bump this up to the top to remind you all that this event is tomorrow night. Some of you may have been lucky enough to have our APA on cask at Rich O's a couple of years ago for their Lupulin Land Festival. This is, however, the first time we are tapping a cask on the "Sunny Side." (all apologies to the Hoosiers who read this blog ;) ) Anyway, come on out, drink some Schlafly APA, and cheer on the Lady Cards. We did a cask night in Saint Louis last week, and the cask was gone in 25 minutes. So, make sure you get there as close to 6 as possible. Cheers.
