Turkey barbecue?

by Katy M » Thu Mar 26, 2009 8:09 pm

I was in Austin, Texas last week and had the most delicious barbecued turkey (dry with 3 sauces on the table) at Ironworks. At one time, Kentucky Barbecue Company had turkey...I don't believe they do now and even if they did have it on the menu, who knows if they would actually have any in stock for me to order once I get there. (I guess that's another topic, though). Anyone know of a good place to get some barbecued turkey?

Ken-Tex Barbecue in Shelbyville (just north of the far I-64 exit) usually has it. Turkey Joe's on North Hurstbourne near Westport Road probably has it as well ... they have turkey in a variety of forms.

Thanks, Robin! I think we'll try both!

Jucy's BBQ (http://www.jucysbar-b-q.com) has really good smoked turkey. In my opinion much better than Turkey Joe's.

For Thanksgiving last year, my family decided that we weren't much in the mood for cooking. So we ordered a smoked turkey from Kentucky Barbecue Company. And it was delicious! I know they don't do them regularly (and it gets very frustrating when they run out of things listed on the menu), but if you planned in advance and wanted a whole turkey, I'm sure they could make one for you. Dave is in charge of the kitchen over there. And if you asked, he might be willing to make the turkey again as a special one night.
