Giving BJ's Another Try

by RonnieD » Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:58 pm

After the less than impressive offline at BJ's awhile back, my wife and I had sworn off the "brewpub" chain in Oxmoor Mall. However, this Sunday, looking for an option to sit and enjoy the UL game with my mother in tow, without doing the true "sports bar" scene, we settled on BJ's again, mainly because we were already at the mall and it was, at the very least, edible during our previous visit. So we gave BJ's another go.

Ultimately, my evaluation is about the same. Strictly speaking in culinary terms, the food is average and non-threatening at best. Nothing there is going to challenge the palate and chances are good that most of it is constructed from frozen ingredients. As mentioned before, their beers are reasonable approximations of the styles they are intended to represent. Their Hefe probably being the highlight of the lot.

However, I will say BJ's served excellently in the capacity for which we had chosen it. As a venue to sit back, enjoy a few beers, chow on some appetizers and watch the Cardinals play, BJ's scored a slam dunk. The place is very clean, the service is very attentive and despite a large party next to us, not at all noisy or uncomfortable.

I'm probably not ready to make BJ's a go-to spot, but it will serve in a pinch if you are in the area.

John saw this headline from across the room and said "way to go, Ronnie! Never give up!" Of course, as I said back when we first started talking about BJs - John (and every other guy I've ever dated) loves them.

the English grammar structure allows for a distinguishing between BJ's and BJs. While an apostrophe can be used to show the plural associated with a lower case letter there is no need to include the apostrophe when using an uppercase letter. Thus, had you guys and gals been paying attention during your seventh-grade grammar lessons, you would have no excuse for your minds to be in the gutter. ;) Alas, I'm guessing y'all missed those lessons as your pubescent minds were busy spending time in the gutter. :)

Luckily for the gutter-crowd, the distinction is not so clear (if at all clear) with spoken language.

Please note that in my "gutter" post, there is no apostrophe.

I guess I should contribute something relevant to this thread. My friend raves about their "pizookie" dessert, which is a cookie served in a deep dish pizza pan topped with ice cream. I met a friend there after a Sephora outing for a couple of beers and appetizers, and it was nice for a chain. I say it's a little better than you would expect.

Interesting day for this to flame up. Heh.

Last night UK played the Creighton Blue Jays. A girl in the crowd was wearing a shirt that read "I [heart] B-Jays." I'm sure her daddy was proud.

And if I were to post about BJ's here I would be scathed. Has the board gotten a bit more liberal about things or what?

If you have to ask, Doogy, you don't understand. And that's the problem.
