Dinner at Equus

by John NA » Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:16 pm

My wife and I love trying new and hopefully great places for special occasions. Last night we went to Equus, a place we have longed to try out but had not quite gotten around to do.

From the moment we walked in the door of the place until we left, the experience was outstanding. Dean Corbett is often referred to as the 'dean' of Louisville chefs and Equus is a primer on being a great restaurant. One is greeted and welcomed and served with charm, wit, and grace.

One thing we noticed was that there were no salt and pepper shakers on the table. I believe that there is a presumption that they will season your meal perfectly in the kitchen. They did. I had the Pancetta Wrapped Pork Tenderloin and every morsel of that dish was outstanding. The pork was done perfectly and every mouthful had a taste of salty, sweet, sour, and every bite was as good as the previous. A wonderful spinach salad and chess cake for dessert, and wow, it was a great meal. My wife at the baby filet and could not pass up the Equus version of Caesar salad. Anything listed with anchovies tends to call her name.

This is truly an outstanding restaurant and a reminder to me of the importance of supporting our local business people. This is one great place and I hope people do continue to support it.

I couldn't agree with you more! My wife and I were there last Tuesday on Saint Patrick's day for a birthday and had a marvelous meal. I posted our menu choices under the thread for what did you eat on Saint Patrick's day, but like you we had a marvelous time.
