Green beer is wrong. Period.

by Roger A. Baylor » Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:30 am

Subject heading says it all.

One exception applies: Berliner Weiss with woodruff syrup.

Otherwise ... don't kid yourselves.

The only thing worse than green beer is the aftermath - ask anyone in EMS who has worked a St. Paddie's day!

I tried to use the "green grin", but my work computer won't let me!!!!

Agreed, and that's why I'll be drinking whisky tonight instead of beer.

Really? I think green beer is festive and fun! It's as if I'm drinking a magical leprechaun potion. As long as it doesn't turn my mouth green. Actually, that could be fun too =)

I don't know what the bars use to color the "green beer", but in Chicago every year they dump massive amounts of bright ORANGE Chemicals in the Chicago River to turn it green. ( some sort of chemical reaction with the chemicals already in the river, turns it bright green). Pretty scary!

Its an old tradition started by city water workers/plumbers. They use the dye to test for leaks in the system and see whos illegally discharging into the river. Its really there to protect the environment,in no way harm anything. I believe that the original chemical was not the most environmentaly safe, but they now use something that is food grade from what i understand.
As for green beer...I dont think so.
We will be enjoying a couple of Laphroaigs(I know it Scottish, who cares) and Guiness with our corn beef and cabbage.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

If I remember correctly, St. Patrick is actually Scottish, how moved on to Ireland to do what he is famous for, so no problem with the Laphroaigs!

and magical goodies - desserts

Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. I tend to believe people should be able to enjoy their beverages in anyway they choose. Both my parents took hours and hours of classes to become very wie savvy and the key they got from all that education was, drink what you like, how you like. If you buy it, enjoy it however you want.

St. Patrick was actually from Wales, and kidnapped by Irish raiders in his youth. After several years working as a shepherd boy he escaped, made his way to (I believe) Rome, was ordained a priest, and returned to Ireland as a missionary.
However, I'll confess that I had some Laphroig last night, too....

I concur with Roger, I will have no part in Green Beer. It is pretty much a beer purist thing for me.

Similarly, I'm somewhat of a coffee purist, and hence I won't be adding flavors as I roast my coffee beans. That's why they make syrups. Add it later if you want.

Cheers....
