Now I've seen it all...or Why didn't I think of that

by Steve P » Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:49 pm

OK...So I've been out of town enduring a (thank God) brief assignment in Oklahoma City (AKA..."Foodie Hell"). The other day I was out and about and found myself in this local hot sauce bout...errrrr I mean emporium (for some reason I'm not able to use the word "boutique" and Oklahoma in the same sentence). Striking up a conversation with the proprietor, he directs me to their newest "hot" product...Microwave Pork Rinds. I'm thinking to myself "What the f...errrr...I mean "heck". Recalling a recent thread where we were discussing foods we won't admit to eating I had to find out more about this product.

The product comes in a pint sized "bucket" that reminds one of a heavy duty sour cream container. The "rinds" themselves are flat, very hard and about the size of your thumbnail. According to the owner what you do is to shake out the amount of pork rinds you want to consume, put them in a paper "lunch bag" and then microwave on high for a minute or so. Apparently these things "pop" very similar to what pop corn does. I'm not sure if it's just an "Okie" thing or what but I was told the things are flying out the door...I'll let you know what they taste like since he talked me into buying three containers

So what are they going to think of next ? Inflatable Vienna Sausages ?

Hate to tell ya......saw these at Wal-mart a couple of years ago. They were in bags like microwave popcorn.

It figures WalMart would be on the cutting edge of pork rinds

At the moment I'm sitting in my hotel room (if you use the words "hotel" and "room" loosely) trying to figure out how one would go about dehydrating Vienna sausages ("just add water"). I'm thinking these things would be a hit among the Bass fishing/Deer hunting crowd :P

Gayle,

That's very kind of you to say. We both wish we could have been there.
