After having our socks knocked off by Anthony Lamas at Seviche last night, I was ready to "paint the town!" He is a chef to treasure, and you know I am quick to criticize and I avoid hyperbole. Anthony's nueve Latino cooking can compete with anything along Forteleza Street in old San Juan. Thank you Anthony. That was fantastic!
Afterwards, we drove to Shelbyville Road to try the Martini Bar and Bistro hoping they would have a band. Unfortunately, no band and they had a very young, sports bar type of crowd that was not quite our cup of tea. We proceeded to Jack's Bar which is another Louisville treasure. A couple helped us find seats at the bar after a patron was a bit weird and rude, and the bartender remembered us and poured me a great cocktail. Donna was driving, and thus she was simply drinking soda. We had a fantastic time and the crowd was cool and friendly.
Donna drove home, but I was not ready to call it a night. I began walking towards Bardstown Road with my stagger on. I turned north on Bardstown and looked for an open, nice bar. I made it down to Impellizzeri's without finding anything. Unfortunately, during my walk, two cars drove by yelling "faggot" out the window. That kind of deflated my swagger which might have turned into a stagger. I stopped by Cumberland Brews, but after being ignored by the bartender for 10 minutes, I decided to continue my stagger-swagger.
I came close to giving up until I saw either a mirage or an oasis right near Bonnycastle. It was tucked away, kind of almost in an alley, and music came from within. I walked up and it said something like the Hideaway Saloon. I paid a $10 cover charge and the band was excellent. I bought myself a beer and the bartender was helpful in picking out one for me. People were friendly, introduced themselves, and I proceeded to have another great Louisville experience. I think I made it home all right, but I am moving a bit slow this morning. Louisville may be growing on me...............................
