What is it?

And I know it's some sort of club. And, yes, it's on Bonnycastle.

The first rule of Bonnycastle Club is that nobody talks about Bonnycastle Club. :P

Sorry, I don't really know much about it either.

...I was wondering the same thing as I walked by it the other night.

It is just a small private club kind of like a country club without the golf, pool and large dining rooms. It has a bar and several smallish rooms. My father was a member and I remember that each year that had a big lobster boil that I enjoyed. Other than that, it is mostly a place where members go to drink, talk, play cards and watch sports. Most members would be in their 60's and up - with a few bringing their sons' into the fold.

Amy, you talk about fathers and sons. Is this a ::gasp:: male only club?

I know a woman who worked/works there as a bartender. I always thought it was so strange and mysterious, being there in the shadows with no windows, but to hear her tell it, it's just a normal little place where older people come to eat dinner and socialize. I still find the whole no-windows thing odd, though.

I don't think it's male only because I have been there. I don't know if females can become members though. I can tell you that I would have no desire to be a member of that place. It's seems to be exactly as described: a social club where members go to drink and play "fake" video poker machines. My group was the only people in there under 60.

Oooh, I've been in there before. It was after hours, too - very hush hush. I definitely felt like I was tresspassing, but I was with a member, who was of course male, and oddly enough, as young as I (late twenties at the time). It's mostly an older bunch of gentlemen I would guess, but there are some young uns, too. All I've got to say about the place is that these guys must really like hangin out with each other. Isn't there another one related to the Bonnycaste Club located above a restaurant in Old Louisville? Maybe Buck's or something? I can't seem to recall.

A good friend of mine is a member and we have been several times. It is a Louisville democratic party hang out. You pay a membership fee and then you have to send some $ every month. The drinks are really cheap, like $2 for a Makers Mark.

I think you're referring to the Gentleman's Club located above Central Park (now Amici's). I'm not sure if it is still there. Back then, I was under the impression that it was everything that you would expect from that kind of place. As a matter of fact, I was invited to take a tour of it one night by one of the members and my older brother wouldn't let the guy take me up there. I should probably thank him for that. Of course...this is all hear say.
