Flanagan's

Over the course of the last week, I've tried Flanagans for both the first and second time ever. I must say that I've been relatively impressed with both their beer selection and their food offerings. I was at the Founder's festival last Thursday, and although I didn't try anything but Founder's ales, most of their beer selection seemed well-chosen and reasonably priced. I also went to their Guinness pre-St. Patrick's Day festivities today, and once again I was pleased with their offerings. The Upland's Ard Ri was especially nice.

In addition, the service was attentive and not overbearing and the food was high-quality pub-grub. The bison burger mignon, although delicious, very nearly killed me because I'm no longer accustomed to greasy food. The sweet potato fries that accompanied it were perfectly crispy and delicious. Tonight, I had a chicken sandwich topped with mushrooms, sauteed onions, and alfredo sauce with kettle chips on the side that was also very good for the $7 price tag. The service was also spot on; attentive but not over-bearing. Over all both of my experiences have been very pleasant, and I'm sure I'll visit again in the future.

Flanagan's, O'Shea's (across the street), and Brendan's in St. Matthews all share the same owners. They are very supportive of various charities and community events in town in addition to having a great beer selection and good pub grub. My most recent experience was at O'Shea's and I had a similar experience to yours at Flanagan's. I had the added bonus of being at the bar and sitting close to a gentleman with a spiked-up mohawk that rose 2 feet above his head and was colored bright orange. It was quite impressive.

Gotta love this neighborhood (actually, that would be the Highlands on Bardstown Road - guess it all depends on your perspective )

Sarah Egbert, the GM at O'Shea's, is an old friend, and she does a great job over there.
