Where to eat in Northern KY?

by Karen H » Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:30 pm

We are possibly going to be in Northern KY this weekend, in the Wilder area, does anyone have suggestions for where to eat? No seafood, the couple we are going with don't do seafood. Price average 10-15 per person, nothing real fancy. Probably will be lunchtime.

Thanks! :D

We've had a good brunch at the Greenup Cafe. I have read that Jean Robert, however, left the restauraunt sometime recently and I'm not sure how much has changed since then. Also, I'm not sure how close that is to Wilder.

Wilder is not far from Newport or Covington so anything in that area would be good too.

If you haven't been there, the Hobrauhaus is always a good time with a group people. You'll never hear me complain about wurst and sauerkraut.

Additionally, I'm not sure if its still there, but I had a very positive experience at Istanbul several years ago. I believe it is within walking distance of Newport on the Levy.

Ate lunch only . . . very nice . . . standard fare, soup/sandwiches/salads, all good . . . in the evening, with jazz upstairs, may be different vibe, but lunch was very casual & relaxed with good food in the indicated price range.

I will second Greenup, I've had brunch there and it was delicious.

However if you're looking for cheap and greasy I would recommend the Anchor over in Covington, just off the Mainstrausse. Try the goetta!

I suppose one would expect me to offer a ringing endorsement for the "Greenup Cafe", but I haven't dined there (yet), nor do I have any business interest in it....on the other hand, "Walt's Hitching Post" (Covington) has been a local institution for several years and offers pretty good BBQ....

Cafe Istanbul is one of my go to places in Newport. I was up there 2 years ago and had this to report. http://www.myspeakerscorner.com/forum/i ... mid=610980

It's a link to the old forum, but it does work.

You can find their menus here --- http://www.newportonthelevee.com/direct ... aspx?id=10

Ok, a little change in plans. We now have our friend's 12 year old daughter going with us also. Would these suggestions work for her? She is not usually very adventurous in her food choices.

Thanks for all your help!

You have to try Dixie Chili while you are up there. Probably not want you want for dinner, but it would make a great lunch! :D

Karen
Adventure into Newport and try Pompilio's. Family run Italian joint, been there a LONG time. A local legend may even more famous by Hollywood. A scene from the movie Rainman was shot there back in the 80's. GREAT traditional Italian fare.

Chez Nora would definitely work for a 12 yr old. Haven't been to most of others, so not sure.

Also, if you go to Newport on the Levee, there is a Dewey Pizza (local Cincy area pizza mini chain . . . not that bad!) that may be most to her liking.
