Advertising on LHB and Forum: Forum members get first shot

by Robin Garr » Thu Mar 05, 2009 1:44 pm

Okay, folks ... after many years of running LouisvilleHotBytes.com and its forum on my own dime, subsidized by our larger publication, WineLoversPage.com, we're biting the bullet in recessionary times and setting up a simple, straightforward advertising program so it can pull its own weight. You may have noticed a "Sushi in the City" banner running on the forum and on the HotBytes pages, as well as a "stack of flying pizzas" vertical ad on the right-hand side of many LHB pages.

Beginning later this month, we'll open these spaces for local restaurants and food-and-drink-related businesses at very attractive prices, a bright and attractive medium for reaching Louisville's most serious foodies in a way no other medium can match.

Space may be limited, and we want to give first opportunity to those restaurateurs, owners and chefs who've supported LouisvilleHotBytes as active participants in this forum. So, if you'd like to get up at the front of the line - or just get information - please let us know.

To maintain some distance between editorial and advertising, I will not handle ad transactions. Please contact Mary Johnson at mwj@wineloverspage.com for more information or, if you wish, to stake your place in line.

I noticed the new ad along the top, mainly because it seems to be bugging out in firefox 2.

Seems to be happening on every page, haven't tried it in Internet Explorer though.

Weird, and irritating! What's particularly odd, Josh, we can't replicate that over here ... it's working in Firefox, Chrome and IE, and also in Firefox and Safari on the Mac, and Safari on the iPhone. Wait, is FF2 current, or FF3? I don't have a previous version of FF to look at, but it's not usually buggy in formatting.

Firefox 3.something is current, but I've not liked using it as much as 2, so I'm still using a slightly old version. Probably something version specific, but I dunno. It's annoying but it's not breaking things, so it's not something I consider a huge deal, just something that's odd.

Just brought it up in IE6, and it's doing the same thing. I'm going to assume it's something weird on my system causing it.

Still, Josh, I appreciate you bringing it up. I'll pass it on to the techs for a look. Thanks!

We tried something that may have fixed it. Let us know!

Well, uh, it's different, but I'm not sure if it's in a good way. This is on firefox 2.0.0.20, which is slightly more recent than the 2.0.0.6 that I have on my work computer.

Showing up the same in Internet Explorer 7 here though, which is odd as this is a reasonably fresh install of windows, only been up for a couple of weeks. However, it may still be one of the things I'm running on my systems that's causing the issue, unless someone else can confirm.

I don't know how much Robin is charging to advertise on this site but for a restaurant or restaurant related business it sure seems like a 'no-brainer' to me.

Looks the same for me with FF 3.0.6.
