Selena's.....Sunday Brunch....

by Rob_DeLessio » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:58 am

I'm getting ready for bed, and I was feeling bad that I didn't do this on Sunday, right after we ate at Selena's.....First off, let me say I thought it was brilliant. My wife and kids love a good brunch, I am mroe into lunch and dinner fare if you would. That said we went to Selena's after church on Sunday, getting there around 10 to 1:00 pm....the U of L game was on, and the bar had a nice crowd watching the game. The gentlemen who greeted us was extremely friendly and interacted with my children as if they were welcome there anytime (which has become big to me, though I know where to take them, and where not).....as we nestled in our nice cozy corner booth, I noticed a string quartet playing some very pleasing music. Then they completely caught me off guard. During a timeout of the basketball game, they broke into their rendition of U of L's fight song. My two little girls started "Go Card Go" cheers, holding their hands up in the "L" yes symbol.....very cool.

Now, onto the important stuff....my wife got a cajun bloody mary, it had a nice amount of spice, and a little kick from the vodka, that's a good thing. I got a Stella which was $4.75, IMO that's quite steep for a beer they don't pay nearly that much fore, bu oh blah dee.....we got some Beignets for the girls, thinking who wouldn't like some fried dough and powdered sugar. They were very delicate and "airey" if you would....a generous amount of powdered sugar made them very pleasing to the mouth. Like I stated before I am more of a lunch person, and was told by our server that there was no ordering off the standard menu, just the brunch (bad part is a friend of mine who works there had JUST told me that you could order a few items off the lunch menu, but I decided not to go that route). I ordered the Eggs Sardou, which in their style was very similar to eggs benedict, but instead of Canadian Bacon, it gets creamed spinach and artichoke hearts...The eggs were poached every so gently with bright runny yellow yolk, that oozed all over my plate when I pierced them with my fork....I creamed spinach had a great leafy flavor to it, while also having that rich cream flavor, the Hollandaise was very nicely done, a had a very well rounded flavor....this dish came with a side of their homemade hashbrown casserole, which was simply delightful, they were well seasoned potatoes, pan fried to a nice crispness, then mixed with some butter, a sharp cheddar cheese, and a very solid tasting bacon. After eating all of my food, i couldn't be any happier (oh yeah the Cards one)...My wife got the creole omelet, which also came with the hashbrown casserole....now her eggs seemed to be very fluffy, and she agreed....it had nice bulk sausage in it with onions, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and a sensational creole sauce that really made the omelet sing in your mouth. She ranted and raved, and actually barely saved me some to eat....I was getting nervous....my daughters shared a belgian waffle with a side of the hashbrown casserole...it was your standard waffle, though cooked correctly, they weren't interested, but I tried a couple bites with the homemade maple butter, and it was AWESOME.......needless to say I was so very pleased with this meal, that we will likely be back this Sunday, as well as Mother's Day.....all in all we were all very satisfied both our pallets and bellies.....our bill was right around $44, and I left our server two $5's......very nice.....Sorry so long, and I am sure this is scattered, I am not used to writing reviews, but I loved this meal.
