Delivery and Take Out Options Bardstown Road

by Phil Gissen » Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:03 am

We live close to Bardstown Road and Bonnycastle. There are some nights that we just do not feel like going out. We are firmly entrenched within the world of couch potato. What places do carry-out, or better yet, delivery? I know I'm thinking like a New Yawka, but the delivery options in Manhattan were incredible. The yellow pages did not help. Thanks.

We tried Cafe Lou Lou delivery for the first time and it was excellent, even considering he went to the other "Dahlia" on the other side of the Highlands first! Food was still warm, and presented as well as you can present delivery food. Best overall option I know of in the Highlands.

Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands delivers, Phil. We're open 7 days a week, lunch and dinner. Click here for a menu from our St. Matthews store, the menus are pretty much the same. Phone number 459-9566.

Now you can try some of my cake! It's very deliverable ;)

Hi Phil,

Other people will be able to tell you better than I where to get delivery for that area. I live near Frankfort Ave so I don't know as well.

I can tell you that Cafe Lou Lou does delivery and it looks like La Que still does as well. Wick's Pizza does. While their pizza isn't my thing, their sandwiches are a pretty good option when you don't want to leave the house.

Other than those options, you need to know about the Louisville Diner website. http://www.louisvillediner.com/ They post a lot of menus and it will say if they deliver.
It seems like I use HotBytes and the diner site pretty much any time I order delivery or I leave the house for food.

If you're willing to leave the house, don't forget about Kashmir for Indian food, it is right up the street from you. Cumberland Brews is also very close and their bison burger is yummy take out too.

I'll second Lou Lou. The new Zaytun will also deliver; we like their Gyros and their Falafel is really, really good.

I was at a Mardi Gras function at The Kentucky Center and Cafe Lou Lou served a couple of incredible dishes. This is great info. Thanks.

My family members are big fans of Zaytun's. We've been eating at Sharom's for years, and the new addition to the family business is just as good.

Za's delivers. Tony Boombooz's when it reopens. Mark's Feed Store does carryout, I do believe.

I know Kashmir does carry out as well, and I'll second Spinelli's. Their white pizza is excellent, and unless you've got a small crowd of people, you're pretty much guaranteed leftovers.

Ya know, I can recall the owner of Zaytun telling me that he would deliver orders of certain size. (little Mediterranean place about ten blocks south of you)

Valu market also delivers and they usually have a few nice soups and excellent beer selection. (an fyi, Phil, since you're new to town and may not yet know - Valu Market is locavore friendly).

I already miss Mimosa delivery. They burned down recently, but you can see the remains just north of the mid city mall.

Don't you just love the highlands, Phil?! Welcome to my neighborhood!

I had no idea Lou Lou Highlands delivers. That changes everything in my life for the better. Here here.

Phil, I live on Bonnycastle close to Bardstown Road as well, and other than Lou Lou, your options for delivery are pretty limited to pizza (chains, Spinelli's, Wicks, Bearnos, Za's, and Boombozz when it reopens). Jimmy Johns will deliver as well, and has recently instituted online ordering. It's been discussed elsewhere, but you can get Wing Zone delivered as well, which also had online ordering. I like their wings, but that's about it.

I second missing Cafe Mimosa. Not only did they have online ordering (I really am a fan of that), but you could get a variety of Asian styles.

Another option is Take Out Taxi (just google Take Out Taxi Louisville). They will deliver from many sit-down restaurants, but unfortunately, most of the options are chains. You can get Bazo's delivered through them, however. It can get expensive, at least for delivery, as I think you have to spend at least $15.00, plus a $6 or $8 delivery fee, plus tip.

As far as carryout, just about everything in the area will do that. I'm not sure if the very high-end in the area like Cafe Metro will do it, but places like Uptown Cafe, Cumberland Brews, Ramsi's, and Kashmir all do a great job with carry out.

I visited a friend in NYC last spring, and was absolutely amazed at the amount and variety of food you can get delivered there. Seamless Web rocks.

I do think we will enjoy the Highlands more once the weather gets better. One issue, we both have, is why didn't the zoning laws dictate a bit more control over Bardstown Road? It would be great if all the stores, restaurants, bars etc were all together instead of spread out all over the place. Also, there should be some restriction on fast food joints. I wish Bardstown Road would be more like Nob Hill in Portland, Oregon, Mt. Adams in Cincinnati, Gas Town in San Diego, The West Village in NYC, Newberry Street in Boston, Adams Morgan in D.C., The Cow Hollow in San Francisco, Ocean Boulevard and Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, etc. I'm sure you get my drift. I know you risk becoming somewhat generic, but I do believe it would become more pedestrian friendly and charming. Perhaps I should start this as a new post and stir up some emotion. I think I will. Thanks for all your suggestions. Phil

I was at De la Torres (on Bardstown at Bonycastle) recently and noticed someone came in for a take-out order they had telephoned in earlier. Don't know what it was but it smelled wonderful!
