Name of restaurant 1300 block of Bardstown

by Phil Gissen » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:59 am

There is a restaurant in the 1300 block of Bardstown Road that I have not seen any name posted on the outside. It is new, with some non-descript, light brick facade on the exterior of the front. It has had a plastic tarp hanging in the door way, but with patrons eating inside. What is the name of this place? Does anyone know?

Phil, is it Pita Hut? It's directly next door to an empty store (formerly Greatful Threads) which has the windows papered over. This is in the same block as Leatherhead, between Leatherhead and the Cricket store.

Marsha,
I don't think so. The building is across the street from Avalon, on the next block towards downtown. It is a modern structure with, as far as we can see, no name on the outside. It doesn't appear to be a "take out" kind of place, but more of a dining establishment.

Is it Ramsi's? They have light brick columns and I think a tarp is covering the fountain? at that entrance. The sign is on the building next door.

That'd be Ramsi's, then. I betcha. They expanded at one point, Phil, and their sign is still on the building just towards Longest Ave.

I've resisted participating in conversations about Ramsi's, as I've thought their quality has decreased since expanding. A few weeks ago, though, I had the Paella, and it seemed to have the "kick" that was missing from my last few trips there. It's still not back at the top of my list, but it's back in the rotation. Great place for taking a friend who is visiting or for a date, as the menu itself is a great conversation starter.

Maybe, this is all bunk, and I just miss the corner store before expansion.

We, Impellizzeri's, are 1381 Bardstown. Ramsi's would be in the 1100 or 1200 block.

No, I think it's Ramsi's. I just google mapped the 1300 block of Bardstown Road, and it runs all the way from the corner of Bardstown Road and Longest to Bardstown Road and Edgeland.

Ramsi's is 1293 Bardstown Road, but I'm pretty sure he's referring to them. He said, "The building is across the street from Avalon, on the next block towards downtown."

Gotta love google. I don't utilize the interweb nearly as much as I could. I was just remembering that plastic entrance to Palermo and imagining it being called a tarp. I dunno - it's the end of the work day and me brain is sleepy. Is there even still a plastic entrance to Palermo? For the smokers or something?

I've seen it up ocassionally. I hadn't thought of Palermo until you posted, but that made me think it could be that Phil was referring to, so that's why I fell back on the good 'ol Google.

It is La Gallo Rosso. Annette bought the bed and breakfast and has expanded into the bottom floor.

Phil,
The entrance is in the alley and FYI they have excellent Italian food. It is more homestyle southern italian cuisine IMO. Robin can give a more acurate assessment. I stayed at the bed and breakfast in early September and commented on the changes to friends when dining at Avalon last weekend.
