Nicola's in Cincinnati

by Phil Gissen » Thu Feb 26, 2009 7:17 pm

I know this probably belongs in the Cincinnati restaurant forum. However, the responses in that forum are rather old, and thus I am putting it in here.

Donna and I are driving into Cincinnati for the 20th Century Modern Furnishings Show on Saturday and I made a reservation for dinner at Nicolas. The last time I was in Cincinnati was around 1991 for a history seminar. Do you people know anything about Nicolas? Any suggestions for Cincinnati? Thanks Phil

It's good but....and I might get in trouble for saying this, being a Cincinnatian and all.....there is better Italian in Cincinnati.
really depends on what you are looking for in Italian food. Boca is something to look at if you are into the whole contemporary, chef -driven approach to cooking. Barresis is another if you really want good traditional Italian craftsmanship.

While I know it's a chain, we just last night ate at Oceanaire. The wait staff was exceptional, and the four of us had four different seafood entrees - one better than the next. (I can tell you that my swordfish served over carmelized onions and topped with blue cheese butter and tobacco onion rings was one of the best fish entrees I've had in a year!)
