Restaurant Food Trading.....

by Dan Thomas » Tue May 01, 2007 2:06 pm

The Frank's thread brought back memories of when I was a teenager working at Papa John's(the 1st one when it was still good). My co-workers and I, on a pretty regular basis would call up other restaurants and trade food with them, For example," How 'bout we send you a couple of pizzas, if you fix us a few steak sandwiches and toss in a few baked potatoes?" Or maybe we would call Jerry's and get a few burgers. We also did this when I worked for Noble Romans in Clarksville. It wasn't too hard to talk someone into it most of the time(everybody likes pizza) and we got to eat something other than pizza every night of the week. I was wondering if this practice is long gone or does anybody else still do this sort of thing?

When I worked at Hawley-Cooke, we used to trade out gift certificates with other local businesses quite a bit. They made nice employee gifts or door prizes at the holiday party!

Back when I managed a pizza store in Morgantown, WV, we were the only delivery downtown and we "traded" with a lot of the local restaurants. Pizza for Shoney's strawberry pies, chinses food, ice cream from the Dairy Queen, ect. It was nice and gave a change of pace to those of us in the store every day. My guess is these days with computer ordering and such it would be difficult to do it.

When I managed the Mc D's in Shepherdsville, the ladies of the night would come over from Gobel's and order from the drive thru. They would then come to the window with no tops on. That was always a highlight of any dull evening. I could expound on the subject, but then again in this era of total PC maybe I shouldn't.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.
