Frankfort Ave Last Friday

by Phil Gissen » Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:45 pm

The Frankfort Avenue last Friday soiree is this weekend and since we cannot make the Flabby's off line function, I was wondering if any of the wonderful people who frequent this Forum would care to meet Donna and myself for a drink some place during the soiree. We are looking forward to meeting some people here in Louisville, and felt that this might be an opportunity. I realize it is on short notice, but perhaps some of you may be free. There are several places we can meet such as:
Bourbon Bistro
Varanese
The Irish Rover
Porcini etc.

Yet, you all would certainly know some good joints. We could meet after the event is tailing off, like around 9:00 or 9:30. Let me know what you think.

I'm interested in this as well. I've never been before. I don't know where to park, where to catch the Trolley... does it loop? etc...

It's a fun time Scott. Best to do it when the weather is cool or a wee bit chilly because those packed trollies can get a bit stuffy.

The FAT is a great event. As far as parking...where ever you can but, the Trolley's stop running I think at 11:00 pm. So, you may want to park near your last stop. That way you won't have what could be a long walk back to your car. I hope to get out this Friday night and enjoy the event as well. I hope to see fellow members out!

The biggest lot is at Mellwood Arts Center, but as Scott R. says, if you don't make the last trolley back there (too much fun with the forum group!!) you're stuck with a reallllly long walk. Best spots are along Frankfort Ave. I think the most underused public lot is the one off Franck Ave. by the firehouse and Oscar's Hardware. Hope you make it out and that the rain stays away. :) [btw -- as a Frankfort Ave. frequent walker, it's about a mile between Varanese and Porcini]
When in doubt, add more wine.

Hi Phil and Donna! Welcome to Louisville! Looks like the weather might put a bit of a damper (LOL) on FAT Friday, unless the rain lets up! We're supposed to be meeting some friends for drinks and haven't decided where to go yet, so be sure to post where you all decide to go. Maybe we can swing by and say hello! You'll have to be sure and tell us how to identify you all, like, we'll be the ones dressed in matching outfits or we're the old hippies, etc!!! L & N is a good spot to get drinks also, as is North End Cafe and El Mundo. Actually, the best apple martini (I have to say, the only apple martini) I've ever had was from L & N. They were infusing vodka with granny smith apples - yum! I don't even like martinis and almost never drink vodka and these were (everyone excuse me here) delish. (I can't believe I just quoted Rachael Ray) I am a Jameson gal, followed closely by bourbon - up. Anyway, I digress (boring at work today). Let the forum know where you might be and when and we'll try to swing by!!

A large crowd ususally gathers around Margaret's Consignment store. They usually have a band - but I don't know about this early in the season. Small variety of shops, restaurants, bars in the 2 or 3 block area.

Just a quick heads up! There will be girl scouts selling cookies outside of Quest and down by Kaviar Forge. Make sure you have some cash and grab some extra cookies before they are all gone for another year!

I'm going to provide my cell phone number and get in touch Friday night, if you would like me to buy you a drink. I believe that is the least I can do for all your hospitality. The people on this Forum have certainly been the most helpful of everyone we have been in contact with here. (That includes the people who recruited and hired Donna at the University's Health Science Center) Don't tell her I said that! Contact me by PM for the number!

Just wanted to thank Phil and Donna for a great, fun evening! Gordy and I met up with the Gissens at L&N for drinks. We instantly hit it off and talk never slowed the entire evening. Since they had caught the trolley and were parked by Varanese, we offered them a ride to the restaurant where we were graciously allowed to intrude on their reservation. It was, actually, our first time at Varanese and we enjoyed it immensely. Everything was just wonderful, from my salmon with grits and asparagus to Gordy's pork chop and Phil and Donna's steaks. Great food, great conversation and, hopefully, new friends! Phil, next time, drinks are on us!
