Perhaps it has improved, Annemarie ... when I went, shortly after it opened, I was underwhelmed. It wasn't horrible by any means, but just struck me as awfully, well, "chainy." I reviewed it for The Voice, which prefers gentle criticism and doesn't have as much latitude as LEO for wacky reviews, but I think some of my concerns can be seen peeking through the lines ...

My experience was closer to Robin's. Looks like I need to give them another try.

Mine too. But honestly, I'm not sure I'll bother trying again- too many great places to visit in town...

(zucchini bread, carrot bread and rolls) the breads are super moist. the service is right on, the prices very reasonable. each visit was always enjoyable. always busy and yet accommodating. it is a chain, but a good one at that. :)

I agree w/you, Annemarie...there are chains and there are chains, but I think Mimi's does a good job of execution...I've dined there for dinner and breakfast on several occasions w/o complaint.....and their Eggs Benedict are great!

I'm all for patronizing locally-owned and operated restaurants, but well-run chains are also part of our business community, and especially in this economy need some measure of support....they're employing Louisvillians, too.

Mimi's and Amerigo are the only 2 chains I eat at. I first ate at a Mimi's on vacation in Colorado Springs back in 2002. I think their Breakfast is better that their Dinner.

I also think Mimi's breakfast is better than other serving occasions . . . maybe it's a result of being owned by Bob Evans???

Bob Evan's bought them in 2004. I first ate at one in 2002. To the best of my recollection, the quality of the breakfast was as good then as it is now. I only ate there once a year, until they opened here in Louisville.

OK, so maybe Bob Evans bought them because they have a good breakfast but in my opinion breakfast is the only meal worth eating there. It's pretty good but anything else I've had there is only mediocre.

Why would anyone go to an awful joint like Mimi's for breakfast, which is also a chain, when you could have much higher quality breakfast somewhere like Toast or if you don't want to drive all the way downtown, Wild Eggs

I've never been to Mimi's, love Toast, and really like Wild Eggs. But I can give one reason: the really long waits at Toast and Wild Eggs on the weekends. I bet we've not gone to Toast 10 times because we called and the wait times were too long.

Agree. We are huge fans of both Toast and Wild Eggs, but I really just can't take the wait. It's obscene.

That said, there are still good local joints with breakfast - North End and Sweet and Savory are great options, without the ridiculous waits.

I eat at the local joints all of the time. But when I want potato cakes topped with salsa, roasted green chile, jack cheese, eggs and tomatillo sause, Mimi's is where I go.
