Phil Gissen wrote:Following up on your suggestions, Donna and I drove down to Creation Gardens this afternoon after taking our dog to the Vet. Wow, we fell in love with the excellence of the produce and purchased a bunch of food for our meager refrigerator here in this apartment. It was great to now have a place for those special items that make loving food so special. You guys have certainly helped change my opinion about Louisville in just a couple of days. Afterwards, we tried Baxter Station, but it was closed until 4:00. So, we just turned the corner onto Bardstown and lunched at Stevens & Stevens. Initially, we were confused about the two restaurants back to back. But once we saw the counter and the descriptions of the sandwiches, I thought I might be back in the "Big Apple." My "Woody Allen" (pastrami on rye) was quite good, although the pastrami could have had a bit more fat for flavor and a spicy Eastern European tanginess for tradition sake. The Dr. Brown's cream was the crowning touch. All that was missing was a bunch of alta-cockers (If you don't know what this means, let it suffice that it is Yiddish for old farts) sitting around complaining about the state of the Union and garbage pick-up. We will be back. Thanks again for helping us learn more about Louisville.

Thanks for the shout-out, Doogy! Unfortunately we're not open on Saturdays, only Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. HotBytes people should definitely stop by and say hello!

I continue as the lone voice in the crowd, but try the pastrami at Jason's (a chain, believe it or not) and I think you'll find what you're looking for! (If you still aren't satsied, you'll have to hit Corky & lenny's or Slyman's in Cleveland, Max & Benny's or Max's or the Bagel in Chicago, or Noshville Deli in Nashville for the closest "real" deli's)
(Actually, for the truly best corned beef & pastrami, I bring back from the Vienna Beef factory store in Chicago on most trips there)
