Microbrew-paired dinner at the Windsor, Mon. the 23rd.

by Roger A. Baylor » Sat Feb 21, 2009 1:20 pm

From Steve Coomes' dining notes in today's Courier-Journal, there is notice of Monday evening's (February 23) beer dinner at the Windsor. Thanks to Isaac Fox for mentioning my hosting role, but I'm cutting those parts out here  .

The full menu is recounted, and yes, we'll have Randall the Enamel Animal primed with coffee beans for the occasion:

"Windsor manager Isaac Fox said chef Justin McMillen's meal will combine foods and brews from Kentucky and Indiana for a truly homegrown event. Cost is $55, and reservations are required ...

... A pistachio and goat cheese salad paired with Brugge White; coq au bier (Cornish hen braised in Barley Island's Flat Top Wheat) paired with Barley Island Dirty Helen; braised short ribs with porcini and thyme reduction paired with Oaken Barrel Snake Pit Porter; a variety of local cheeses paired with Brugge Triple and New Albanian Hoptimus; and espresso creme brulee paired with Bluegrass Brewing Co. Jefferson Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout filtered through Hob Knob Espresso Beans.

For more information, call (812) 944-9688."

Great job to all involved at the beer dinner at the Windsor on Monday night. The pairings were excellent, the dishes were simply superb, and the service was excellent. I plan on writing a more in depth review of the night later, but I wanted to get a quick nod of recognition to the fine people at the Windsor for the job they did, as well as Roger Baylor of New Albanian Brewing and Tisha Dean of World Class Beverages for their work in helping to bring it all together.

Second the emotion! I will probably write it up for LEO next week, unless the editors object to the same place getting (different) props two weeks in a row. (If you have any particular comments you'd like trumpeted from the bloody pulpit, Todd, shoot them to me in a PM or Email and I'll quote you.)

A warm thanks to all who came out last night to enjoy some good food and brews! Roger and Tisha, your invaluable guidance and assistance is greatly appreciated. And Jared, if you read this, thanks for hooking Randall up and pouring some delicious BBC Jefferson Reseve Bourbon Barrel Stout through the Hob Knob coffee beans.
Hope to see everybody again soon, and stay tuned for more upcoming events. (Maybe a spring wine dinner on the patio?....)

Thanks for hosting Isaac, it really was a fantastic evening. It was nice to meet you as well. Hopefully we'll see you around at some of the offlines.

Also, thanks to Roger for helping to organize the whole event. Once Bank Street opens up, and especially if this isn't the last beer dinner, I can see myself spending a lot more time in downtown New Albany.

It was good to see everyone else again, and especially nice to meet Tom Hostein for the first time.

Finally, if you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out the Windsor. I don't know if bison short ribs are on the regular menu, but if they are you absolutely have to try them.

Thanks, Paul, it was great meeting you as well. I'm definitely interested in getting involved in the offlines. I talked to my fiancee, and we are both planning on attending the Flabby's offline. Thanks again!
